Charging When Powered Off

On my 1030 (not Plus) when I charged using external power I'd power the device off (press and hold power and "Power Off") and it would go into a sort of really off but charging, displaying only the battery charge state. e.g. Power device off, apply external power and it starts and blanks screen just showing 45%.

But apply external power to 1040 (solar) and it fully switches on, screen, GPS, everything. Put into seep and you get a blank screen

When touring I have external solar panel (24W) and cache batteries but power is limited and wasting charging power and time because the device is switched on through charging is a real waste.

If on the 1040 I put it into sleep mode with external power does this disable GPS, comms (BLE & Wi-Fi) still see active, etc. and is it the same as the 1030 "charging from powered-off". Have I missed and special settigs the control these things?

    I have the same issue. If I completely turn off my Edge 1040 power, then at first it will show charging level. Then it times out and stops charging!!

    I don't want to keep the unit on while charging, especially if I'm charging from another battery overnight.
