Mapping issues with Edge 1030

My Edge 1030 has a number of courses on it which I have used regularly with no issues. Recently when I start riding a course, the instructions--turn right in 50 meters, etc.--have stopped appearing. When I activate the map on the screen the map initially shows the previous position for when it was last opened and, after a few seconds, the map updates to the current position with the appropriate direction marker. Thus it seems when the screen switches off the map is not updating in the background and is therefore not providing the necessary route prompts when required. Any suggestions?

how to increase font size only for name of the cities without increasing name of streets or landmarks?
goal to setup large size for cities, small size for everything else.
without programing, setup advanced app, just from menu.

if i will try just to increase all font sizes, on small scale (20-50meter) will be a total mess when riding in the city. font become too big for small space and its total unusable.

on 500m only name of city aprea and its good. but its in small size and super difficult to see it

on 300m streats apear but name of city disapear

on 200m streats and city. but so small that its imposible to read it especially on moving / shaking bike.

Hello

I know this has been previously raised as an issue, however I cannot find any answer when the device is out of warranty.

The tab on the rear of my Garmin Edge 1030 (not Plus model) has just broken in the same way. No longer under warranty. Is there now a replacement part available? The rear of the device seems to be sealed? The device fortunately is still fully functioning.

I've pretty much given up as there is no support whatsoever from Garmin. They much prefer to offer a $50 discount on a new $600 unit.

I'm moving on to the Magene C706. I can buy almost three of them for the price of one Edge 1050 and I'm getting all of the features I need plus some. If the premium price of Garmin is not matched with premium service then it's better to buy the cheap stuff and replace as needed. There are too many engineering and design problems with the Garmin products to warrant the price differential. I've battled this long enough and it's just not worth it anymore.

I reached the same conclusion with the Cycliq camera/light products (Fly6 and Fly12). They are good, but way too many design issues that cause short lifespan of the units. The support is the same.....upgrade. So I've moved on to new competitive products costing 1/4 the investment and can just replace as needed.

Sudden incorrect gradient and elevation from edge 1030 plus

My edge 1030 plus has worked great since new , maybe 4 years ago but on my last 2 rides all of a sudden it is showing obviously incorrect gradients, exaggerated ascent `& descent but also accumulating wildly inaccurate elevation totals.

I have seen some historical posts on this but not seen a solution as yet. The ports are not visually clogged.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I do not believe that after over 4 years this is an inherent problem with edge 1030 plus just showing itself

Sorry this isn’t strictly 1030 but couldn’t find an appropriate forum to post in….

Trying to resurrect an old Garmin Edge 1000 and last option is to use some old version firmware. Does anyone have a copy for download (v6 to v10)?

Alternatively has anyone successfully fixed one? It charges, shows garmin loading screen, visible as device on computer but won’t fully load up. Tried a Garmin cure option with no joy.

Garmin Edge 1030 HRM stopped connecting

Sunday, my garmin edge 1030 worked just fine. Monday, it dropped the polar HRM that has been connected for a couple of years. I figured i just needed to change the battery but this has not worked.

Here is what i have tried:

1. When it showed up as a sensor, i disconnected it, then reconnected. But it would never reconnect. It was stuck in "connecting"

2. Did a default reset on the garmin. This did not help and it struggled to repair to the phone. I am wearing the HRM and has been stuck in "to connect the HRM, put it on". for the last 30 minutes

3. The cadence sensor dropped out a few weeks ago and i figured that was due to a battery that i have not yet changed.

Is there something malfunctioning on my edge that is not allowing anything to pair? This HRM works fine as always on my Forerunner 235

Thanks for any assistance! I would like to have a functioning device by the weekend.

2026 Current Maps for US

Hello,

I updated or attempted to update my maps today using Garmin Express as I was informed there was a new map available. It turns out it removed my US map and all I was left with was Trailforks. As strickly a road cyclist, I've never used Trailforks.

I called Garmin support and a rep walked me through installing current maps. Unlike my previous map which was a map for N. America, I was instructed to download the following:

- TopoActive United States East 2026.10

- TopoActive United States West 2026.10

Am I missing a basemap or anything else? Both of the above along with Trailforks are now showing in Garmin Express under Map Details.

This isn't just about the Edge 1030 plus. I'm having exactly the same issue with my Fenix 7. I haven't had a Performance Condition (PC) measurement for the last 5 days. I've tried 2 different Garmin Dual HR monitors (one is only a week old) and various combinations. I've been using the 1030 plus and a previous Edge for years and never had an issue with PC measurement before. All rides since the problem stated have been indoors, 5 for 60 minutes and one for 30 minutes. HRs have been in zones 2-5 and have been recording as usual. I use the Edge to control my Wahoo Kickr V5 but record cadence separately using a Garmin sensor. I've tried several changes including: removing all sensors from both devices and pairing each separately to the Edge and then to the Fenix. I've also checked that HR on Edge and Fenix are consistent by connecting to both simultaneously to each HRM. It's notable the Garmin Connect shows no PC chart rather than a chart with no readings. All other charts, including HR are displayed as usual. I plan to test outdoors, connected to Favero power meter pedals fowl power and cadence. Is anyone else having this problem? Since the issue is affecting two different devices, this looks more like a firmware/platform issue than just a device problem.

Garmin Edge 1030 Plus after 6 months — honest review

I finally pulled the trigger on the Garmin Edge 1030 Plus 6 months ago after years of using a basic bike computer. Wanted to share my honest experience because most reviews online feel like paid promotions and I had a LOT of questions before buying.

Quick context:

I ride about 150–200 km per week, mix of road and gravel, with the occasional bikepacking weekend. Previously used an Edge 530 for 2 years before upgrading.

What I love:

Battery life is unreal. I'm getting 22–24 hours in standard GPS mode, even longer with battery saver. Did a 12-hour gravel ride and ended at 58%. Game changer for long days.
The 3.5" touchscreen is huge. Sounds minor until you're trying to read turn-by-turn directions in bright sunlight. Coming from the 530, this feels like switching from a flip phone to a smartphone.
ClimbPro is genuinely useful. Shows you upcoming climbs with gradient, distance, and elevation gain. Mentally helps you pace yourself instead of blowing up halfway.
Trendline routing. Uses Garmin's heatmap data to suggest popular cycling routes. Found incredible roads I never would have discovered.
Group ride features. GroupTrack and Incident Detection have already saved my friend group from getting separated twice.

What annoys me:

It's BIG. On a small handlebar setup it dominates the cockpit
Pricey. Around $599 retail, though I caught it on sale for $449
Touchscreen can be finicky with wet gloves
Initial setup with Garmin Connect was painful (3 firmware updates back to back)
Some workouts don't sync cleanly from TrainingPeaks

Real-world performance:

GPS accuracy is excellent — multi-band GNSS keeps signal even in tree cover. Climb data, power metrics, and heart rate all log accurately. The mapping is the best in the business right now, hands down.

Should you buy it?

Honestly, depends on what you ride:

Long-distance/bikepacking: Absolutely worth it
Daily commuter: Overkill, get the 540
Racer who needs power data: Yes, but the 840 might suit you better
Casual weekend rider: Save the money and get a 530

Tips if you do buy it:

Update firmware FIRST before pairing sensors
Customize the data fields immediately — defaults are bad
Use Garmin Connect on desktop, the mobile app is clunky
Buy the out-front mount separately, the included one sucks

Edge 1030 Plus vs the newer 1040 — is the upgrade worth it?

AXS 13 speed not configurable

I've just moved to AXS XPLR 13-speed from Di2, and it's surprising and incredibly disappointing to find that my still perfectly functional Garmin 1030 Plus doesn't properly support the AXS kit. It's bad enough not being able to use the 'bonus' buttons for extra functions (like change Garmin screens which works fine with Di2) but to find that the manual configuration option won't allow me to configure more than 12 speeds just seems ridiculous.

Why haven't Garmin released a firmware to support this? The 1030 Plus was around £500 when I bought it a few years ago, and I won't be spending another £400-500 just to move to the x40 range to support this.

Are there any plans to release firmware to fix this please Garmin?

I’m experiencing an issue with my Garmin 1030 Plus. When I create a course using the Garmin Connect online platform and navigate the route on my device, it frequently prompts me to turn—even when a turn isn’t actually necessary.

On the navigation screen, I use the "Distance to next" and "Distance to goal" fields. However, the "Distance to next" often indicates that the next turn is only 40 or 50 metres away, when in reality, it might be 5 kilometres ahead. This results in constant, unnecessary reminders to turn, which is quite distracting.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a solution?
