i recently updated edge and now it doesn't show any details on maps. just the main roads. i have a 16gb card with garmin cycle map eu 2019.20 north east plus standard maps.
I've tried restoring edge and re downloading maps
any ideas ?

Sounds as though you may need to enable the map on your device (I presume that the map you can see is just the basemap) - https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/edge1000/EN-US/GUID-2ADCD0D5-D5CB-4C29-9ACB-EE8BA1FDCC64.html
The Garmin Cycle Map EU map consistes for the roads of two parts - North-East and South-West. I suppose you may need and thus activate the South-West map. If the South-West map is not present, re-install of the maps through Garmin Express (GE) should solve this. Take care to use the most recent version of GE (for Windows 6.19.2.0).
If you're on a MAC reading here may help you: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-explore/168178/missing-european-maps
I posted this on the wrong forum I think (as I have an Edge Explorer 1000 so was confused which forum was correct) but this solution worked for me:
Hello Simon. Did you ever rectify this? I have done the exact same thing and have now only my base maps and have lost all detail!
Thanks Helen
You need to use the reinstall map option on Garmin Express
It wasn't actually me that had the problem. You may posssibly need to reinstall the maps, but first check that the maps are enabled - Settings > Activity profiles > (select the profile) > Navigation > Map > Map information. You obviously have the basemap - are any others enabled?
