Just curious, where did you manage to find the Edge Remote? It’s been discontinued for quite a while and seems pretty hard to find nowadays. Thanks!

I'm shocked that the Edge Remote was discontinued. The Remote was a real Garmin differentiator! I am primarily MTB, and the Remote allows me to switch pages and return to the dedicated Map page button that I programmed without taking my hand off the bars. If my current Remote dies, I'll be very upset that I can't replace it. Obviously Garmin recognizes the advantage of it, as they created it to begin with and allow wireless shifting buttons to control the Edge in the same way.

Garmin, PLEASE, bring back the Remote! And please make sure it compatible with both the x30 series as well as the newer models.

Without the Remote, I'm one step closer to considering a Wahoo, Karoo, or some other competitor for my next cycling computer. Such a shame that something that had great value and worked so well has disappeared. Totally perplexing.

And where would that suggestions box be? I've looked all over their site, even in the Marine and Aircraft sections, and used their search box and cannot find the "suggestions" box.

I've got 3 bikes, two mountain bikes and a road bike. Fortunately, I have two remote mounts (purchased a spare when they still offered them). I would suggest getting the quarter-turn bike mount kit, part no. 010-11430-00, ($9.99) and see if you can modify the mount that comes with it to work with the remote. Barring that, it's just take the mount off of one bike and put it on the other. You'll wear out the rubber bands, so it will be nice to have spares.

When can we expect the gearing in the aensors section to be updated. I have a 13 speed cassette with the largest being 46 tooth, the selection only offers up to 45 teeth. It's an SRAM AXS RIVAL set up.

How is one expected to use the device without remote? Honest question, as I cannot fathom it. Using the remote on my gravel with 1050, and now getting back to MTB, thinking how will it work w/o remote, as it’s (the holder for the remote) connected permanently to the gravel.

Any pro tips of make-do holders for sharing the remote between two , or more, bikes?

Maybe I'll just make it a part of my morning routine, to send Garmin a "suggestion" that they reintroduce the remote. I ride MTB and road. The remote is handy on the road, to instantly reply to notifications and see where I am on the map, but it is essential on an MTB for checking routes and times (ever try riding a bike off-road with one hand?)

This thread has more views than any other topic in "Accessories & Sensors" for the last two years, yet Garmin won't even acknowledge us. Also, can't even see that there is an "Accessories & Sensors" forum when you have just have "Cycling" bookmarked. You have to go all the way out to the master forum page for Sports & Fitness. So if Accessories & Sensors was visible under Cycling, then this topic would likely have even more views and comments. Garmin! Bring back the remote!!!

I have the same problem. Was sent a 2nd sensor and the same thing happened. Couldn’t change the battery because the case can’t be opened. And now I cannot get Garmin Customer Support to respond or help.

I just purchased an edge 840 bundle and wanted to check to see if there was a film I needed to remove from the speed sensor battery before installing it. I'm using a coin and following the instructions to open the cover but the cover will not budge. It's already resulting in the slot on the cover deforming.

Has anyone experienced this before?! I'm hoping someone has a solution.

I have no idea why this design is still used and why manufacturers insist of making these devices out of plastic that has the structural integrity of cream cheese.

For the price of these computers they have to be able to do better that this...

Unsure what to do at this point other than return the sensor and deal with another bad design (Wahoo) that at least I was able to get open.

Couldn't agree more on this comment. Garmin has so many great designs on so many of its product line and components, this cheap plastic enclosure that is "overtightened frequently during mass production" as the support tech from Garmin mentioned to me has got to go.

This is my 2nd sensor and it has the same exact issue! I got a replacement after I placed a call with support, where they said this was only a one-time courtesy swap, also a bad practice when you have a known product flaw.

Any tips to get it to open? 😞

Not a dead thread if we keep hammering on it! Lol! Seriously though, the dichotomy here is killing me... Garmin allows users with electronic shifting to control the Edge, but those of us that will never use electronic shifting have the Remote taken away! So Garmin obviously still recognizes the value of controlling the Edge remotely, but discontinues their own device that worked great. Killing me...

Yeah, like notifications that tell what kind of hazard is coming up. If it's slow traffic or a pothole or a detour, I can see that, and typically before I finish reading the notification. And the "sleep" mode is annoying. I don't want to have to take a hand off of the handlebars and push a button to see where I am on the map. Only on my long rides (50-100 miles) do I need to worry about battery life, and then I carry a solar battery charger and cable with me on those rides.

Not pairing anymore with edge/watch

update edge firmware

nothing again

removed battery waited a while, repeated the process again

nothing

Solution: with the sensor battery in, searched for firmware updates in edge, during search the sensor green lighted and paired back

I reached out to Garmin assuming I would be out of luck/ordering it on Amazon. They were great and replaced mine. No clue what caused the initial issue, but the new one is as much easier to open.

I had no idea the Speed Sensor 2 was released in 2019 and it latest update was made in 2022, since they are still sold on Amazon with a price as they were 2026 models.

The 4.10 firmware is already very old, and by searching in google it was abandoned since 2022 with a lot of bugs, that you can find here and in reddit.

Speed Sensor 2 that fail to wake up when you spin the bike wheel, until you remove the battery and pair the sensor again with the clock
Speed Sensor 2 that its just never able to pair
Speed Sensor 2 that fails after replacing the battery
Speed Sensor 2 with speed spikes (that supposedly was fixed with firmware 4.10)
Speed Sensor 2 showing 4 times the real speed after working fine the previous sessions
Etc, etc.

And the solution is always returning or replacing the product. I've never seen such a basic product with so many bugs after 8 years of being released.

The Garmin Speed Sensor 2 is basically a scam. A very expensive product that doesn't work.

I'm feeling like buying a Garmin Venu 4 was a complete mistake.
