My approach is pretty simple: for VOR tracking, I manually tune the VOR on NAV1, identify it, then set the inbound or outbound course using the CRS knob while the CDI is set to VOR. The magenta guidance won’t appear unless it’s part of the flight plan, but the raw data works just fine. For airways, I don’t try to “intercept” them manually I always load the airway segment in the FMS. Once it’s active, LNAV will keep me centered without much extra work.

Working on a G5000 and trying to practice intercepting a radio or airway out/inbound? I have reviewed the manual but still don't see a reference. Any help would be appreciated.

The intercept begins around 09:30 in the video.

Try restarting the avionics and making sure your SD card or database drive is properly inserted and up-to-date if your G3000's databases won't sync. If the issue continues, re-download the database from Garmin’s flyGarmin site and re-install it.

With a TBM-960 running that software version, it’s reasonable to expect the databases to sync seamlessly without these issues. Replacing the GTCs seems like a drastic step unless it's confirmed as the root cause.

If your G3000 databases won’t sync, try these steps:

Verify Update Process: Ensure updates were correctly downloaded to the SD card or USB and are compatible with your G3000.
Check GTCs: Inspect Garmin Touch Controllers for communication issues or error messages.
Power Cycle: Shut down the aircraft’s electrical system and avionics, then restart.
Reinsert Media: Remove and reinsert the SD card or USB to ensure proper connection.

That service advisory does not apply to my airframe. I fly a TBM-960 with software version 006-B4304-05. This has happened before and the last time the dealer didn't know how to fix it. Do I need to replace the GTC's? I feel like the databases should just "sync" on their own with no issues. This is becoming very frustrating.
