I'm dreaming of a Garmin watch that can do it all. This is what I thought the Tactix would be. But actually, the Tactix has watered down aviation and watered down diving features, making it a master of none.
See how aviation is almost unusable when compared to the Tactix 7 on this post: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/tactix-8/414095/tactix-8-issues-and-suggestions
Diving is limited to 40m and will stop being a dive computer at 45.01m, so if you have any trouble at 40m and descend 5m uncontrolled, you're no longer able to know how to ascend safely. This is a huge safety risk. The lack of air integration is a safety risk too, as you can't know how many minutes of air you have remaining and can't communicate with others if visibility is very poor or you got lost.
I want a Garmin watch with full aviation and full diving features, making it a master of all!
Why not call it something like the Garmin Ultima or Garmin Tactix Ultimate.
It would use a modified case based on the Descent MkXi to have its hardware: subwave (air integration and messaging), 200m depth rating with various gases.
It would also have full aviation features coming from the D2 Mach X Pro like navigation and flight planning including airports, navaids, IFR waypoints. Emergency mode, flight plan transfer with Garmin Pilot and equipped aircraft, etc.. These are only software so the watch case isn't a factor.
It would have the latest Fenix X features like speakers/mic and ECG. And likely LTE for comms on ground. LTE is already compatible with Starlink D2C constellation which will have the best quality, so that's what I would focus on to enable comms on the water and in flight in an emergency.
Of course, include the latest military features but I don't care because I'm no military. I know a lot of civilian pilots who are also divers and who could afford such a watch.
Think of what an amazing tool this would be.
Make it in all 3 sizes. On the small size, offer both a dark color and a light color.
I would get a 51mm black and my spouse a 43mm white/beige.
What do you guys think?
