VO2max Petition

One thing pretty much all Instinct owners and reviewers agree on is that the VO2max omission is odd for a device at this price point, considering lower-tiered devices have it.

Adding it would make the Instinct a much easier purchase for lots of runners who would prefer this style of watch/display over the color models, just based on gauging reactions from personal encounters, as well as countless others around the internet.

Garmin team seems pretty good at responding to user feedback [sometimes], so let's see if we can draw their attention and hopefully get this feature added to our Instincts.

  • I love my Instinct and would love it more if it had VO2 Max in a firmware update. I still use my 920XT for most activities because I want VO2 Max related data features. Please make this available Garmin!

  • I bought a Garmin instinct in March 2019 after having many garmin forerunners. I am a runner and Nordic skier and a bit of a cycler. Can you please add vo2 max to the next software upgrade?  Thanks.

I bought a Garmin instinct in March 2019 after having many garmin forerunners.

So you knew you wanted VO2 Max because you presumably found it useful on your previous Forerunners, and yet you've chosen to buy a watch without it and then have the tenacity to complain about it missing the feature?

    That's next level Face palm

Ya'll need to sell your Instincts and grab Fenix 5 or 5+ instead if it's that critical to you. Garmin wont be introducing it as it's one of the very features they've cut out in order to up-sell you onto the Fenix line. It's exclusion is very, very intentional.

  • Yes I agree with this. I don't understand why Instinct doesn't have the ability to measure VO2max. Is that difficult or it shouldn't have this option because it will appear as a affordable solution for fenix?!

  • +1 to VO2 Max. I just received my new watch, and was surprised that this beast of military excellence is missing the metric. This would be the best watch I've ever owned if I had access to that data.

  • I would vote for adding this - or at least giving an in app post analysis feature (in order to differentiate between specialist variants). The hardware is there, its not the real VO2Max, this is a predicated one so, it does look like pure software thing which can win over more customers.

  • I 100% support this. Would like Garmin to create a Pro version for the next gen(Pro is in style now thanks to Garmin and Apple Upside downUpside down
Rolling eyes) with NFC/PulseOx/Music/VO2max etc as well as a bigger size option. I very well understand what the watch is for and the monochrome screen is perfectly fine but the options mentioned above would make it a perfect work watch for me so I don’t have to worry about damaging the Solar 6x Pro.

  • I also support the idea of adding VO2max. I get that some people don't want it or need, and that's fine. We all have our preferences.

It's an easy add. And I doubt it steals any significant market share from the Fenix - they're very different. The Fenix is not an Instinct-plus-VO2max. However, they're probably losing market share to competitors that do offer it - the Suunto Spartan Trainer and Coros Pace, and others.

Unlike most folks here, I haven't yet bought my multisport watch. I would buy the Instinct in a heartbeat if it had VO2max. As it is, I'll probably go non-Garmin.
