Auto-Update to 17.00 killed my pulse oximeter and drains my battery in a few hours

This morning I woke up and my watch was dead. This never has happened before. So I just recharged it and started in the day with much confusion. I recognized early on that my battery was losing charge (days) every couple of minutes. After going throug the watch menues I also noticed that my pulse oximeter says there is a version mismatch and I would need to update. But there is no update available. I'm already on 17.00. Now I tried to updating to 17.14beta but this doesn't help at all. I also did a soft reset on both version and will no try to go back to 16.50, which I found in the 16.50beta post.

I can't understand why there are auto-updates pushed from garmin which will have those critical failures. Maybe it is best to deactivate the auto updating process (which is on by default) and only update to a new version if there are no complaines about broken features in this forum. :-(
