Heart rate monitor gaps and max bpm not matching.

Hi guys, I have two doubts about the heart rate monitor and the max bpm.

For the first topic, as you can see in the images attached, there is a gap in the monitoring, one while I'm sleeping and one in the afternoon. My question is, is this normal? Do I have to do something to fix this? What I know is that the watch is all the time tight and adherent to my wrist as indicated in the Garmin manual, during the day as while I'm sleeping.

For the second topic, I noticed that the max heart rate during the day doesn't match the max heart rate while i'm doing an activity. Isn't the max heart rate during the day supposed to match the one with the max bpm of an activity the same day? Is this a bug or am I missing something?

As you can see the daily max bpm was 117 but I had an activity (the one on the right) where I reached 146 bpm.

(sorry if you see the images blurred)

Cheers

Sebastiano

No, it is not normal. I do not have any gaps in my HR data unless I remove the watch from my wrist. There may be two possible reasons - either the sensor cannot detect your HR for some reason, or the syncing of the data failed. Seeing the relatively short gaps, the first case is more likely. Restricted blood flow may be perhaps the cause.

i noticed that the max heart rate during the day doesn't match the max heart rate while i'm doing an activity.

Unlike the first issue, this is indeed normal. The daily HR shows the data averaged to 2 minute interval, which will of course remove any peaks of HR shorter than 2 minutes.

  • Thank you Trux this link was very helpful, don't know how I missed it.

  • Had my first gap during the night today. Had the watch for 30 days+, first time i have a gap while having the watch with battery charged  on my wrist.
Still wondering what i could have done during sleep to trigger a 30 min gap !

  • Unlike the first case, this one looks more like a gap due to sync failure. If you use the Android version of the Connect app, check the Device Sync Audit (at the bottom of the Settings menu) at the corresponding time (you can browse back through the audits), and check it for errors. The loss after the midnight is rather typical for this case. I would also verify whether the watch and the phone have identical time, date, and time zone - a discrepancy there might be one of possible causes for the loss.

  • I m using Connect on my iPhone with iOS.

i have 3 data hr points synced after midnight. Gap starts after 0:05 and the phone time config is the same and didn t change during my sleep. So time sync is fine, so is Time zone. Happened after new firmware.

  • Unfortunately, the iOS version of the app does not offer the Device Sync Audit function. You could check the file s//GARMIN/Debug/Err_log.txt and .bak, whether they do not contain a crashlog with the timestamp corresponding to the critical time. And if you see it happening more frequently then I recommend reporting it to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com.
