Elevation data over-reported

I have an Instinct 2 Solar (bought it 2 months ago).  Elevation data was very accurate until recently it has started over-reporting elly gain by about 10%.  The only thing I can think of is I have been washing the after-market wrist band with soapy water.  If any soapy water got into the barometric air pressure opening would that have caused this issue?  If so, what would the solution be?

  • 10% is an excellent accuracy for the barometric altimeter, since it is influenced by countless of factors - atmospheric pressure changes, temperature changes, wind gusts, or airflow due to high speed, moisture or sweat, dust, ... I would not bother about it, there does not seem to be any serious problem. If it were during a longer activity, calibrating the altimeter each time you make a break, may help improving the accuracy, though those 10% are really within the expectations.

  • Thanks!  It's just that for about 15 hikes with 1,000 to 1800 meters of gain the device was right on the money.  This was verified by a Suunto altimeter, an iPhone running Caltopo and my partner's exact same model of Instinct.  It was always within a couple of meters of the other devices.  I was surprised to see it running 10 meters high per 100 meters.
