Feature Request: Setting for when step counter is reset

I live in California, it's hot and bright during the day, I work all day. That means I will sometimes go walk at night, often past midnight. There doesn't seem to be a setting on my 2X as to when the step counter resets, and it just seems to reset at midnight. Possibly I could start an activity, but really I just want the easy option of say resetting at 4am instead. I know I'm always asleep.then no matter what. If I walked past midnight this would let me see my steps for my "day" (when I have been awake) simply, no fussing with activities or adding up steps across multiple days if I cross midnight.

Would love to see a setting on the 2X.

  • HI, I have simmilar problem!  My Instinct 3 cannot reset steps counter!

I am working 24 shifts as paramedic in hospital, my shift starts at 7 a.m. and lasts to 7 a.m. next day. I cannot perform this simple basic setting for step counter to start counting by 7 a.m. - not by midnight!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes I want to reset counter at shift change at 7 p.m. it is also impossible!!!!!!

The counter by now is resseting by midnigth at the 1/3 of my night shift and I cannoct count steps done at my shift!!!!!!!! its useless

It is like stopwatch without stop/reset button, how stupid is that..

  • I often go running after the midnight too, but I do not see why should I mind that the steps are recorded according to the calendar. It does not matter whether I do the steps early when the day starts, during the day, or just before the midnight. There is simply a limit of 24 hours. So if you use to be active most after the midnight and do your daily doze of steps every day, it won't change your stats in any way.

However, if you really have to have the steps counted for some reason in the way you ask, then you could set the time on your watch to the manual mode, and move the midnight a few hours later. You could then use the Alternative Time Zone option with your true TZ, in order to see the true local time on the watchface, in a data field.

  • Well, the features of the watch are all designed to help you understand how your health is being improved during your daily cycle (body battery, calories burned, stress levels, etc) but various aspects of the watch and the app are tied to boundaries at midnight and there's a lot of people who don't have midnight as their boundary. I don't care how the watch and app track data internally, what would be nice is if you could tell it "this is when I consider my day to end" and it would adjust all the displays everywhere for that. All it would have to do is process the last 24 hrs of data from when you set. Instead, I can't just look at my wrist and see how many steps I did today, I have to go into the app and see how many steps I did today then also look at yesterday and what I did in the last few hours of that day... it's a mess.

Garmin products are some of the most expensive and I expect them to do better.
