Instinct Solar Surf - Tide location is completely wrong

Hey team,

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, but my location in the tide app consistently resolves the tide to Jackson Bay, Westland, which is the opposite coast of the South Island, where the tide is ~5hours different from my local conditions.

Can someone else try this - enter the following coordinates and see where the tide location resolves to?

S 43 36.6953

E 172 42.4119

It should resolve the tide for Lyttleton, Christchurch here - our local windsurf spot.

I believe this issue started happening in late 2022, it used to work perfectly. I'm 99% certain its a software issue specifically related to tide, as my GPS functionality works great for recording activites.

Hey mate, also live in Christchurch and recently purchased the Garmin Instinct 2 Surf edition and I am getting exactly the same issue as you. Tide location is defaulting to Jackson Bay when coordinates are actually in Chch.

Thanks for responding. Garmin already replaced my watch as the support decided it was likely a device specific hardware issue, but my new one has the same problem.

No idea how to communicate to them how to fix this, but is a pain as its one of the important features and reasons I bought this specific watch...

I posted elsewhere about this issue- mine always defaults to Porec, Croatia. I'm several countries away from there.

I'm now getting Christchurch tide times via the 'Current Location' option in the Tides app now (in a non-Surf Instinct 2) - was getting Jacksons Bay previously. However, if I try to save the location or add as favourite it goes back to Jacksons Bay times (but still says "Christchurch").

Yeah so they released two updates in fairly quick succession, it seemed like the first one made it kinda work, and then the latest update is giving me the the behaviour you describe. So frustrating!

me too... i live in Venice, not too far, but tide quite different...
