Fēnix E - wrong hiking data recording (granulation?)

Hi,

I have a problem with Fēnix E recording hiking. It's not correct, distance, elevation... when compared to other recording devices: mobile, other garmin or similar devices.

E.g. my Fēnix recorded ~18km long tour with 840m accumulated elevation while many other devices of friends that accompanied me on the same tour recorded ~13km and 660 accumulated elevation. Thus the slope of the climb differs a lot also, some section on Fēnix shows ~20% while other devices show ~40% for the same section.

Possible cause can be granulation, that is much bigger (wrongly?) in Fēnix recording.

Print screens follow. Tour named "Hike" was recorded by Fēnix E, while the same tour named "Alpes Dolomitas..." was recorded by other device. Discrepancies:

- 1: differences in data, distance, elevation, speed...

- 2, 3: example of one track section recording, lower granulation on other devices

- 4, 5: slope percentage difference of the same section

Check the satellite setting for the activity. The device with the poor details appears to be using Ultra-Trac, which records a position only once per minute.

It is not really the granularity, it is especially the GPS drift on the places where you stopped during your hike, that increased the distance (and elevation gain). I recommend pausing the activity while you stop (either manually, or by enabling the auto-pause option in the settings of the activity profile). Apparently your friends had the auto-pause enabled, since their time is 22 min shorter.

You can also tune the GPS settings for higher accuracy, if you prefer more accurate recorded track over the battery life. Changing the Recording Mode from the default "Smart" to "Every Second" improves sampling rate (the granularity). And as PallMe wrote, if Ultra Trac was used on the other watch, it would log the GPS position only once a minute, hence resulting in an even less track points than with the "smart recording" mode, which then could easily result into an underestimated distance.

Thanks, will try Every sec + (auto) pause on the next hiking occasion and cime back with the result...

Thanks, but actually all other devices are not wrong since many different devices with different way of track recording gave almost the same data... except my Fēnix E.
