Fenix 8 v22.35: Pace stays at 0:00 and gets stuck, even though GPS is working fine

Hi everyone,
I’ve been encountering a recurring issue since the latest software update. On both Monday and today, I experienced a bug with my pace display during my running workouts: the pace suddenly drops and remains stuck at 0:00 min/km.

Pausing and resuming the activity seems to fix the problem temporarily, but it recurs very quickly. It doesn't appear to be a GPS signal issue, as the route is tracked correctly on the map in real-time, and auto-laps are still triggering as expected.
However, the data analysis for running dynamics (power, ground contact time, etc.) is completely skewed. Furthermore, the pace data on Garmin Connect remains at 0:00. Interestingly, while the data is displayed correctly on Strava, there is a discrepancy between the interval times recorded on Garmin versus those shown on Strava.

On Monday, I tried a soft reset (holding the Light button), but the problem returned today. This time, I attempted to clear the temporary files. Notably, I haven't had this issue on other days; it only occurred this Monday and Wednesday during track sessions with my running club (in a group of about 10 people).
Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, have you managed to resolve it without having to perform a full factory reset of the watch? This bug is really frustrating because I had to run 'blind' on Monday, and I had to stop and restart the activity today just to get it to work. It’s particularly concerning as I have a race scheduled for this Sunday.

  • Hello

I am curious if this could be related to a Satellite setting or power mode for you activity. A frequent drop of GPS Pace during an activity can be related to battery saving during your activity.

Please answer the following questions about your activity:

  • Hello ,
Thank you for your response. For both activities where I encountered this issue, I was indeed using the standard 'Run' activity, not any of its derivatives. I have never changed the satellite settings, which are set to 'Auto' for this activity (and this applies to the Activity Focus mode as well, which is set globally). The power mode is also the default standard setting, which I have never modified either.
What puzzled me is that my watch displayed a pace of 0:00 min/km while still recording my GPS track in real-time, and the distance data remained accurate as well. As I mentioned in my first message, this had an impact on the analysis of the various metrics.
However, I decided to take the initiative tonight to perform a full factory reset of the watch without restoring from a backup, to avoid any potential bias from a corrupted parameter setting that might return via the backup (I figured it wouldn't hurt to do one after all this time Sweat smile). I will see if this resolves the issue, and I will keep you updated or answer any further questions you may have.

  • I have encountered the exact same symptoms and bugs! The last two runs my Fenix 8 amoled lost the pace display to 0.0. This happened on two runs (last Sunday and today). In both cases the pace was lost when I entered intervall training with higher paces. In the two runs I used different sensor sets (HR & FP). The satellite position has been correct in both cases. Please advise.

  • I experienced exactly the same issue, with identical symptoms and configuration (Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm, v22.35), during two runs last Sunday (31 May 2026) and today (5 June 2026). Both runs used different sensor setups (external heart rate monitor and FootPod), so the cause is very unlikely to be sensor-related.

At the start of the interval block with higher running speeds, the watch suddenly showed a speed of 0.0 and kept this value until the end of the workout. GPS tracking worked correctly, and the route was recorded accurately. All other metrics such as stride length, ground contact time, oscillation, distance, etc., are correct. Only the speed data was missing once the issue occurred.

As described above, this is very frustrating, as the missing speed data leads to inaccurate performance and training metrics.

  • Hi, I have some problem.
Since updating my Fenix 8 51mm AMOLED to software 22.35, multiple FIT activities contain invalid enhanced_speed values. In two separate activities, enhanced_speed becomes 0.000 m/s after the first 30–37 seconds and remains zero until the end, while distance and GPS position continue normally. Garmin Connect therefore shows pace around 1:00:00/km. The same files also store incorrect total ascent: one activity stores 1 m and another stores 0 m, although the enhanced_altitude stream contains a valid elevation profile. In one interval workout, running power also becomes clearly underestimated after the speed field fails: fast intervals around 3:20/km and faster are recorded around only 170–210 W, while the beginning of the same activity records plausible values up to 485 W.

  • If you have checked Focus mode, Power mode, and GPS settings and are still having this concern, I would recommend first trying resetting the activity settings to defaults.

    1. Select your activity.
    2. Scroll to the activity settings.
    3. Select Restore Defaults.
    4. Confirm.

Then see if this is still occurring. If it is, I would also recommend to try reinstalling the software version.

    1. Hold the menu button.
    2. Select Watch Settings.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select About.
    5. Press the Light button roughly 8 times.
    6. Select Reinstall software.

If this continues, I would also recommend trying a full factory reset. Avoid restoring a backup when pairing with the phone again, as this can restore settings that may be causing the error. If after this you are still seeing this concern, please post again here.

  • Here is the same issue. But aktually it happens only once since the Update 22.35 using running and Quick Training intervalls. On other 5 running sessions everything Was fine including one aktivity also using quick Training intervalls. And as you can see it occures Not the whole activity.

  • Just to confirm, if you are still experiencing this concern have you tried all the following? :

    • Ensured no battery saver power mode is enabled.
    • Ensured no Focus mode with reduced satellite setting is enabled.
    • Tried the following steps to restore the activity to defaults:
    1. Select your activity.
    2. Scroll to the activity settings.
    3. Select Restore Defaults.
    4. Confirm.
    • Reinstalled the software version with these steps.
    1. Hold the menu button.
    2. Select Watch Settings.
    3. Select System.
    4. Select About.
    5. Press the Light button roughly 8 times.
    6. Select Reinstall software.

If so, I would love to help investigate this further. For this, please post here. I will reach out to you via email to collect specific details.

  • I have exactly the same issue: it only happened during a Quick Training with intervals, in a fast paced interval. I have checked battery savery, focus mode and restored settings to default, with no success. I now reinstalled software. Will have to wait for a new interval workout to see if this solved the issue.

  • Hello, I have the same problem with my Fenix 8 since updating to software versions 22.35!
The pace crashes and permanently lock at 0:00 during rapid track accelerations!

Is there any new software version coming soon that will fix the issue?
