Metronome Irregularity Issue on Fenix 8 (47mm, Firmware 12.22)

I am experiencing irregularities with the metronome feature on my Fenix 8 (47mm AMOLED) running firmware version 12.22. Here’s the issue and my setup:

1. Metronome Settings:

Beats/Minute: 180 BPM

Alert Frequency: Every Beat

Sound & Vibe: Tone

Status: On

2. Observed Issue:

The metronome occasionally produces inconsistent beeps that disrupt the steady rhythm. For example:

Unexpected pauses or delays between beats.

At times, multiple beeps occur very close together.

This makes it difficult to maintain a consistent cadence during activities.

3. Device Information:

Model: Fenix 8, 47mm AMOLED

Firmware: 12.22

GPS: 2.11

Wi-Fi: 28.84

ANT/BLE/BT: 28.84

Sensor Hub: 32.22

4. Steps I’ve Tried:

Restarted the device.

Verified that the firmware is up to date.

Questions:

1. Is this a confirmed or acknowledged issue by Garmin? I noticed another user mentioned a similar problem, but it wasn’t listed as a resolved or ongoing issue.

2. Are there any plans to address this in future firmware updates, or is there a workaround I can try?

3. Should I report this to Garmin support directly for further investigation?

Thank you for your assistance.

  • That was the main purpose I was trying to use the metronome as well.

Did you ever hear back from support regarding any update for this issue?

  • No I don't think it's a priority, it never worked on my 6x pro either, and it still doesn't work on my 8 solar

They just had a update 17.13 that fix the time day and date and a bunch of other stuff just a few days back

  • No reply since their last message. I can't believe this is the kind of support Garmin provide.

  • Exactly! Metronome is a huge part in my running. Now that I have to wait (don't know how long), I have already bought a separate metronome from Seiko for my training. I'm really surprised such a basic function is missing from Garmin high end watch.

  • Adding to the voices — this is a high priority fix for me because I use the metronome in every strength workout to count rep timing and most run workouts to set cadence. Thank you in advance for fixing!

  • Subject: Issues with Fenix 8 AMOLED 51mm – Music Dropout, Metronome, and Voice Recognition

    Dear Garmin Support,

I am currently using the Fenix 8 AMOLED 51mm, and I’ve encountered several issues that are quite disappointing for what is supposed to be a flagship device.

    1. Music Playback Issue
When listening to music stored on the watch, audio playback becomes choppy after about 30 minutes — the sound starts to break up and stutter, rather than stopping completely. If I pause the music and then resume it, the playback returns to normal. This issue occurs consistently and interrupts the listening experience during workouts.

    2. Metronome Beat Irregularity
The metronome does function during running activities, but the beat intervals are irregular and inconsistent. This makes it difficult to maintain proper cadence and reduces the usefulness of the feature during workouts.

    3. Poor Voice Recognition
The voice recognition feature performs very poorly — the recognition rate is so low that it’s effectively unusable.

I can’t help but wonder whether these problems are caused by insufficient hardware processing power or overly heavy software, which could indicate deeper performance limitations that are difficult to fix. I also suspect that the device may be struggling to handle multiple tasks simultaneously — such as running an activity, playing metronome beats, flashing, and playing MP3 files — which raises concerns about whether the processing power is truly sufficient. I would appreciate it if you could provide evidence — perhaps via the watch’s debug mode or performance logs — that confirms the device’s processing capabilities are adequate for these functions.

For a premium watch at this level, I expected much better performance. These issues have left me very disappointed, and I would appreciate a prompt response with solutions or next steps.

    Sincerely,

  • Don't expect it to get fixed those problems have been around since the  6X pro

  • I thought it would be fixed by now that's why I updated to the 8 solar

  • Still no response or fixes planned for this seven-month-old issue?

  • This issue is over 5 years old at this point I do not believe we have any intention to fixing it
