we should beg Garmin again to add other professional weather sources, airports are too distant/wrong

I've given up on Garmin ever improving their weather features after two decades, they won't even fetch updates via WiFi, only phone connection which is incredibly lazy and stupid

However it seems critical as weather gets worse and worse, more dramatic with climate change, far more wind and urban temps much warmer than airport temps to increase the number of locations used

I would never expect them to use civilian networks with random sensors like weather-underground and 

But there are other options more than NWS, which for me is 25 miles away and WILDLY inaccurate compared to my local ubran weather

There is a national network in the USA that is very professional and associated often with Governments and Universities called WEATHERSTEM and has professional grade sensors

Garmin could easily double if not quadruple the number of quality weather locations and "cells" by adding WeatherSTEM

I am pretty sure that Garmin suggestion link is a black hole that is never ever reviewed, forget acted on, as I've worked other corporate and know they don't give a damn about public feedback like that, but I will send this there anyway and hope others will as well

    I don't expect you to be able to answer enhancement requests 

    but here's are weather bugs you can address:

    on the Fenix6 and previous models, Garmin would obey the FIXED LOCATION set by the user in the mobile app

    but the Fenix7 ignores that setting entirely

    so there is absolute no way to tell the Fenix7 what fixed weather location to use for the default weather report

    why did this basic functionality regress in the Fenix7 vs Fenix6 and previous models?

    on the Fenix6 and previous models, Garmin would cache the weather data download before an activity

    it would still display the forecasted weather temperature with a warning that it was not live (out of date)

    but the Fenix7 doesn't cache forecast temperatures

    so the Fenix7 does not show the forecasted weather temperature after an activity

    why did this basic functionality regress in the Fenix7 vs Fenix6 and previous models?

    I'm not even going to get into the question of why a watch developed after 2022 with wifi built-in cannot update weather information via wifi and absolutely demands a phone tether to work at all

    if Garmin can't even get weather right in 2026, what does that mean about the quality of every other feature?

    Totally agree, my local weather location has changed in the last 6 months(no idea why) to leed/bradford airport which is 40 miles further inland (I am close to the coast) and bears no resemblence to the weather outside. It makes looking back on previous activities and checking wind speed and direction useless. 

    For example I did an interval session with a 15mph headwind the other day and the activity on garmin says it was 8mph sidewind. Completely messes up any analysis.

    And I know Garmin say to report it to the 'ideas' page - but this has been reported multiple times in the last 10 years and nothing has changed.

    As an aside, if you want to check which station it is reporting from, go to connect web and click on the weather icon for the activity - it should show a source code (mine shows EGMN). This obviously changes if your actitvity starts in a different area but I generally run from my front door so it stays the same, and is responsible for the incorrect weather on the watch app too.

    The Garmin watches are intended to be (mostly) used far away from WiFi routers. To save on battery life, the Garmin devices use WiFi sparingly.

    Cell phones have much longer range than WiFi, which means using that is going to be more generally useful than WiFi. The devices also only will WiFi networks you log into (which further limits the usefulness of using WiFi for weather).

    It’s possible that this sort of functionality would require more memory (programming) in the unit. The units don’t have that much memory and using a cell phone for this should be more than sufficient.

    nah stop being a garmin apologist for broken, buggy and missing features

    people use their watches as flashlights and music players

    I charge my watch daily while in the shower

    I'm not saying weather should initiate a wifi connection, I am saying when the wifi is being used anyway for sync why not do one one fetch for weather data

    in two decades of updates to the fenix series they've never even bother to add the fetch to wifi

    they do not even cache the temperature anymore from the forecast on the Fenix7 and it doesn't even obey fixed location for the default location

    weather is buggy, broken, and missing basic features on Garmin

    Garmin cannot even do weather right in 2026, why trust them to get anything else right

    Syncing is done relatively infrequently. Most people might find “one fetch” (during infrequent syncs) for weather to be insufficient. To have any chance of being useful, it probably would need to initiate a connection multiple times a day independent from syncing (and it would only generally work in one place).

    Some of the issues you talk about might be real ones. The “use WiFi” isn’t one of them (since it mostly is going to work in one place).
