Sudden Battery Drain at Fenix 7 Saphire Solar

Hi everyone, hello Garmin engineers,

I’m reaching out because my Garmin Fenix 7 has had a significant battery issue from the very beginning. The battery sporadically drains completely within just a few hours, even when the watch was fully charged beforehand. This problem appeared shortly after purchase and has reoccurred several times since then.

I have already performed multiple factory resets. For a short period, the issue seemed to disappear, but it has now returned. I’m also concerned that these repeated rapid discharges may have already damaged the battery.

After reviewing the official Garmin Forums, it’s clear that this issue has been reported many times before. A search for “Fenix 7 – Battery Drain” shows 4,733 results. These posts span several years - from around the time I purchased my watch in December 2024 up to today - and the timestamps and firmware versions make the pattern easy to follow.

My question is: Is there a technical fix or a firmware update that permanently resolves this sudden battery drain issue?

Thank you in advance for any guidance or information.
LM

PS: Just to add: Currently my Garmin Fenix 7 runs firmware 25.11 - same behaviour was with previous firmware versions since Dec 2024. Would be nice to get an answer on my question above.

  • I have the same issue with my Fenix 7S SS (25.11).
Had it around two times the last 1-2 month.
Maybe it is after a gps activity? But not regulary.
    Like this old bug:

But it seems to be more extreme.
Is it possible to trace this behavior, once the watch is in this bad state?
Maybe this helps to fix this issue.

  • Can confirm on Tactix 7 Amoled. Sudden battery drain appears every 3-4 weeks:

    • No GPS, Bluetooth, Pulse Oximeter, Touchscreen, additional apps. Basically using the device as a step counter
    • Stock watchface
    • Bug exists since purchase (08/2025) and several firmware versions

If battery drain gets spotted I've to reboot the device and battery usage is back to normal, usually 2-3% per day, otherwise it consumes at least 2% per hour.

Not what I would expect from a tactical device, tbh.

  • I’m experiencing a very similar issue on my fēnix 7 Pro Solar after the recent update to firmware 25.11 about a week ago. Since the update, the battery has started to drain unusually fast even when I’m not recording any activities – roughly 10–15% per day in pure watch mode, which is much worse than before.

Yesterday I did a trail run of around 4 hours and the battery went from about 90% down to 40% by the time I finished. Before 25.11, a similar activity would only use a fraction of that. I haven’t changed any settings (GPS mode, maps, music, backlight, notifications, etc.), and there are no new widgets or Connect IQ apps installed.

I’ve already tried basic troubleshooting (sync with Garmin Connect, check for any pending updates, and a reboot), but the drain remains the same. Given other reports of higher battery usage on 25.11, this really looks like a firmware‑related problem rather than a single defective unit.

Could Garmin please confirm whether this is a known issue with 25.11 on the fēnix 7 Pro Solar and advise on recommended next steps (hard reset, diagnostic logs, or a fix in a future update)?

I'd perform an factory reset at this point and restore from backup.

  • Hi everyone

Did any of you manage to reproduce the problem with Garmin enabled logs?

I had one "troubleshooting session" with their logs enabled, but the problem was not reproduced and they gave up and offered me a refurbished watch. (of course that it has been reproduced 3 weeks later)

I was trying to explain that it takes more than one week to reproduce the problem and that eventually it will be reproduced for sure, but the only answer I got is that they don't see any problem in the logs (of course when the problem was not reproduced) and that the problem is for sure in HW even though I confirmed that this is the second Fenix 7 Pro that I have this issue and that there are number of people reporting the same in the forum...

I honestly don't understand why they are refusing to continue with this when there are people willing to help with troubleshooting for more than one iteration of enabled logs.

  • We also went through a short troubleshooting with Garmin, but this didn’t resolve the issue. Instead, we received a refurbished replacement watch.

However, since we were experiencing the same problem on two different devices - and many others in this forum report exactly the same behaviour - it seems clear that this is not an isolated issue affecting just a few watches. Rather, it seems to be a more general problem.

As a workaround, we now power the watches off and on again after each charging cycle. Since doing this, we have not experienced the problem again. Let's hope this is a sufficient work around.

  • I'm having similar issue. There was no change like update or add new plugin / widget whatsoever. Battery dropped from 50% to 14% in 12 hours. It never happened before. The problem just happens to day out of nowhere
