Do you experience random reboots and/or freezes when doing an activity? If yes, please comment.

Hi All!

I've been reading countless comments about F7 watches (also other devices from the F7 series such as Epix, Enduro and Tactix) producing unexpected reboots and freezes. Unfortunately, this has been the case for many users since November 2024 and now it is end of January 2025. As far as I saw this happens while using different activities such as walking, hiking, running, track run, trail run, triathlon and the list goes on.

I witnessed how frustrating this could be as my wife was going through the same. I believe, we did all we could, even more. We did countless soft and hard resets, installed the same latest 19.41 production FW from the watch's developer menu, rolled back to FW 18.16 which appeared temporarily good then failed as well. After having spent so much time and energy, today my wife's loved Fenix 7s Sapphire Solar was taken to the Garmin official store in our location. After we shared all our experiences and explained in detail the actions we did the representative made no questions and exchanged the watch to a PRO model. The representative mentioned that he was not aware of any Pro models failing. Since the community have no official information I thought to create this post and I am asking you all facing reboots and/or freezes to provide the following information below in a comment. Perhaps this will reveal something useful that can be used by the Garmin folks.

1. Model of your device.

2. Software version (production or beta)

3. Short description of the circumstances (for ex.during track running, following a preloaded course while using hiking, etc.)

Thank you for your input.

  • Everything was fine for a while, but now my fenix 7x ss resets when saving longer trail running activities with navigation

  • I started having issues a month or so ago. It seemed to start happening when I stopped using my watch to sleep. If I would turn on the light (or try to), it would sometimes freeze. Same when I would grab it in the morning. Then it started freezing throughout the day. Time would be stale; watch unresponsive.

Since then, I’ve done a lot and something seems to have helped.
Factory reset. Still happened. turned off wifi, still happened.
Deleted golf course maps. Toggle navigation heading setting.

Removed many glances — compass, altimeter, and a few others.

Something seems to have worked. Watch seems stable last two weeks.

Merci.

  • 1. Enduro 2

    2. Sw 16.22 (production)

    3. The probability of the freeze increases if I combine the following functions: Course nav, & PacePro / Race an activity & Livetrack

Since I used course nav many times either with or without Livetrack I dare say only very long tracks ends in a freeze. On the other hand Race an activity as a training function is a killer, even one being as short as 12 km froze my watch today.

Sidenote 1: I hate that after a freeze, reboot with long push of on/off button, choosing resume sequence means that all the ANT+ sensors are disconnected and one cannot connect it until closing the activity, completely leaving the sport apps, waiting for  a couple of seconds then choosing an activity type.

Sidenote 2: my earlier Enduro had exactly the same problems, so I guess the relevant coding has not changed for years.

  • Sometimes, yes — but only when I have my Bluetooth headphones connected and an activity, such as running or cycling, in progress. If I then try to change the track, my watch reboots and I end up losing all of the activity data. Unfortunately, that combination seems to be a definite no-go.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the watch rebooting. I would love to help get this reported. For this, I will reach out to you directly to collect details of this concern.
