Skin irritation from Fenix 7 sapphire solar

I have had my Fenix 7 sapphire solar for just on 2 years, (Forerunner 255 for 2 years prior to this with no issues) about 8 months ago I started to develop a red mark under the HR sensor on my left wrist. I would just wear the watch on the other wrist for a few days until it cleared up then put it back on the left wrist. After doing this several times I have started to now develop the same issue on the right wrist. I cleaned the watch throughly and  stopped wearing the watch for about 3 weeks to let both sides clear up. I returned to wearing the watch and the same thing is happening after a few days of wear regardless of the wrist. I have tried contacting Garmin several times over the last 2 weeks but cannot get through to anyone. At the moment I have stopped wearing the watch completely. My GP believes this is not from any allergies etc. as the mark is directly under the HR sensor. Could it be a faulty HR sensor?? Not sure what to do from here??

Usually it is indeed not an allergy, but a bacterial rash, caused by insufficient care. First of all stop wearing the watch on the concerned wrist till it fully heals. Rince the watch after each sweaty activity, disinfect it regularly with 70% isopropyl alcohol, and change the wrists you wear the watch on, regularly (i.e, for the night), in order to prevent the rash. You will have no problems. The sensor is harmless (just led light, orders of magnitude less strong than the sunlight).

  • Thank you for your response, I have tried these measures with still the same result unfortunately.

Maybe you did not let the wrist healing long enough. Once fully healed, try increasing the frequency of cleaning, disinfecting, and swapping the wrists. Also consider wearing the watch on the ankle, when suitable (I keep it on the ankle in the night).

  • You could also measure the temperature on the bottom of the watch, to find out whether it does not get excessively hot due to a shortcut. That could perhaps induce some skin irritation. Another thing that could cause some irritation, are the charging contacts - people with allergies to metals may develop some problems. I recommend using a rubber plug - you can find them on eBay, Amazon, or Aliexpress, and they cost some $2-3 for a dozen (I got them free with a charging cable).

  • Hello, We are sorry to hear about the issue you are reporting. The skin irritation may be the result of build-up on the watch band and/or casing. You should discontinue wearing your watch until your skin has healed. Please review the following FAQ that provides important information regarding the wear and care of your Garmin watch: https://www.garmin.com/watch-fit-and-care/. • Hi, I have cleaned the watch several times as per Garmin's guidelines. I have also let the skin heal completely. This cycle has been going on for several months. Continued use of the Fenix is causing red irritation. I have now purchased a Forerunner 965 which ive been wearing for a week, zero issues. Im certain there is something faulty with my Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar.

  • Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my Garmin Fenix 7s Saphire Solar. After approx 1 year and 3 months of use I got red marks and damaged skin - I switch left, right.. clean watch...nothing helps.

  • Is it possible that it's just pressure mark, because you wear it 24/7, and maybe too tight ? Can you provide a photo of the issue ?

  • I am experiencing the  EXACT same thing! I have had several different Fenix watches and never had anything! It has to be defect!!! SO FRUSTRATING when YOU SPEND SO MUCH MONEY on something you can’t wear! I’m Sorry!
