What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • I would like to see a feature where you can download/store all your data offline, on your home computer, and view it using an offline, downloaded version of Connect. So that your data is not lost when the Internet is out.

  • You can copy all the data from the watch to a computer offline, via USB. There are tools that allow you to load activity FIT files and look inside them. You can also import those FIT files manually into other platforms such as Strava or Training Peaks, or SportTracks. So in theory, you can use your watch without Garmin Connect. 

  • A data page for displaying the satellites received and their reception strength. Like the original fenix

    You mean like my old Coros Pace 2 from 2020 - made for sports, not for treks or other adventures? But honestly, I would not know what to do with the information. Either we get a GPS connection, or we don't. What use is there to see the birds flying far, far above.

    Which is what I have done since my Fenix '1'. The USB data transfer and offline use was the reason for changing from Suunto to Garmin.

    It is fun! And helpful in urban environments when I can't get GPS, a display like this helps to walk to a position with better conditions. Although admittedly with multiband GNSS these days, Fenix 7 performs great even in cities. Still, it is just really cool and now I want a Coros.

  • Weird flex - with Coros you're getting a pretty useless feature and instead you're losing ton of useful ones Garmin provides, like payments, music, advanced navigation and topo maps, stamina, much better wrist-based HR, useful daily training suggestions, and much more. There's just too much you're losing, unless you don't care about these features which, frankly speaking, most people do.

    It helps you to choose which system is the best at the moment. „All systems" is not always the best.

    Perhaps not interesting for runners. But it is for hiking in the mountains.

  • I think if they're going to do anything it should be make Sat-IQ (Auto-Select) even more perfect.  I shouldn't have to look at a sky chart and tell the positioning system how to function, it should just do the best thing for me.

    On my FR255, I've been told by Garmin that Auto-Select switches between All Systems and All Systems + Multiband mode. But ideally, it should also consider some other other subset of the constellations and bands.

    There are two concerns though. One might be ignoring constellations or bands that are yielding high error rates right now. The other is being able to put the chipset into more power-efficient modes that are still "good enough" positioning quality. These seem a little at odds with each other, since to really know which sources are doing best, you'd still need to monitor them. So best quality may turn on all the radio bits but just selectively ignore some received data. Powering down some of the radio bits would mean it no longer know the real-time quality of the other sources.
