Mountaineering activity not present within activities (17.20 / 17.23)

At FW 17.20 and now also in 17.23, Garmin announced "Renamed 'Climb' sport to 'Mountaineering.'" in the changelog.

I am now at 17.23 and I cannot find neither 'Climb', nor 'Mountaineering' in the list of activities. Does anyone see any of these?

  • This is absolutely not off-topic since climbing has many different aspects: rock climbing (sport, trad), bouldering, ice climbing, mountain cllimbing/ mountaineering.
the indoor climbing profile obviously doesn’t mean hiking a mountain indoors, does it?
Only the Pictogramm suggests hiking a mountain - while this indeed could be done with the hike app as
    suggested.
actually Coros does cater to this including a carabiner type device to clip your watch to a harness.

  • I mean that it is off-topic regarding this thread. Better to start a new thread.

  • Yes climbing outdoors should be a separate activity with GPS.

I've got an open feature request with Garmin for this, so keep an eye out.

I've asked for what would effectively be a copy of Indoor Climbing with GPS, plus the ability to turn off the auto start feature as the elevation changes whilst you're walking around the crag would make the watch think you'd just started a pitch.

For the non-climbers here, the "Climb" activity was never rock climbing. It was more for mountaineering and has been renamed as such.

You could use the Hike activity for your mountaineering (I sure do).

If you're not leading some super overhung 5.12 indoor route, then yeah, it's pretty much vertical hiking on plastic trails.
