Firmware 16.22 crashed the connection to Garmin GameOn+Overwolf

Firmware 16.22 crashed the connection to Garmin GameOn+Overwolf: the watch can be paired with the computer (Win10) via Bluetooth via Sensors—PC—Pairing, GameOn sees them and connects them (for a short time ). But then, when i launch Overwolf-supported games on the computer and start the Games activity on the watch, the red crosses of GameOn and Supported game do not become green checkmarks, the Skip option at the bottom of the screen does not work, the watch does not send anything via bluetooth to the computer in GameOn and GameOn on PC writes Waiting for watches. I tried to remove the watch from GameOn and reconnect it, deleted the watch from the paired devices in the Bluetooth settings in Win10, then paired it again, deleted and reinstalled GameOn and Overwolf - nothing helps. Before this, with firmware 15.77 everything worked well.

  • Don't forget to write a bugreport to garmin if you haven't already

  • TLDR: Tried this, and can confirm that it worked for me

From my side the change was even before update 16.22, I assume it was 2 or 3 updates ago when it stopped being synced up to my PC, no reset, no PC change seemed to help (I'm a tech engineer for context)
But thanks to wschoot suggestion (wschoot: it seems disabling the connection from your watch to your phone solves this.) watch is able to pair

If that does not help, I can add some troubleshooting steps that could help
1- In your PC, go to your Bluetooth settings, make sure to clean any unused device that can be there
2- Reset or reinstall Garmin Game On
3- In your Garmin watch, Disable the Connectivity to your phone via the settings menu
4- Start the pairing process in Garmin Game on via the PC and then the pairing process via the activity Gamin on your Garmin watch

Note: after finishing your game session, enable back the Connectivity to your phone
Also, steps 3 to 4, need to be done again each game session
    > For that I recommend to add the Connect Shortcut to your Controls (While they provide a proper fix), so you only need to Bring the Control Menu on your watch

For me it seems, based on the behavior, that they tried to implement a new feature that conflicted with how the process keeps the phone and PC connection, previously the Garmin watch disconnected itself, now it seems it tries to keep both connections alive, and fails to do the setup

  • only need to do the steps 3 and 4 and I was able to connect. this is still an open bug as we suppose to not turn off the phone connectivity everytime we use that gaming activity, it should automatically disconnect with the phone when we use the gaming activity like with the instinct 2 (which I'm using as well).

  • I've just received mail from garmin that they're planning to make a case out if this and I'm currently uploading my logfiles to them

  • Ahahaha)) after several months they PLANNING)))) well, in any case, it’s nice that they got through and that they now at least know about the problem.

  • Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for me :( . I guess no global fix yet, as per 17.28

  • Unfortunately no, not fixed yet. But, I have not tried beta yet. Please refer to casenumber

PSC-529884 when you contact Garmin. My case is logged under that number

  • Thanks for the quick reply, just in time as I was reaching support, I was added under the same case

  • That's awesome, thanks for your support. Lets hope this makes it into the 18.xx branch. The workaround still works but it's a hassle.

  • I have tried to disconnect to the phone before attempting to pair... But unfortunately, it doesn't change anything. I do note, as others reported here as well, that the watch screen seems to stutter a bit while searching for GameOn devices...
Anyway, I also tried to pair through "Sensors & Accessories" > PC. No luck as well. I tried to have the phone on the same network as the PC. And also double-checked PC bluetooth is working and searchable, through other devices...
But still no luck in connecting to GameOn :( Bummer
