Thank you Garmin!

I wanted to send a public Thank You to Garmin. On June 5th I completed the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. I own the Tactix 7 Standard (T7S) and prior to that the Tactix Delta Solar (another great watch). No company is perfect and I know that some Garmin customers have had some concerns surrounding pricing and/or feature sets for newly released models vs the Fenix 7 series, and I do believe Garmin should rethink their hardware/software release cadence in the future so that it makes more sense and doesn’t annoy customers of recently purchased hardware.

All that said, my T7S has been an indispensable tool for my marathon training and overall management of my general health. The sleep functions of the watch have made me a lot more aware of the “value” of sleep and how important it is to training and overall health and I now work every day to make sure I get enough sleep. I have used it for sleep monitoring, alarms, HRV, SP02 (on demand), VO2 max, music (when I’m not using my vest which holds my phone), run metrics and of course the super-useful (and cool) LED light (in cadence mode) as I run in the early morning hours. There are most likely some other features I have missed but I think you’ve got the general idea, and I look forward to discovering and using some of the other tools like PacePro and others.

As I was waiting for the marathon to begin I noticed that most of the runners were wearing Garmin watches of various types and this came as no surprise to me. I’ve experimented with the Apple Watch but for many reasons, and I certainly don’t need to tell anyone reading this, I always came back to Garmin. The training features, great app, look of my T7S and super battery life (to name just a few) are the reasons I have continued to train with Garmin. My T7S (just like many of you) is on my wrist (except when showering or charging) 24 x 7.  I have no doubt that Garmin will continue to produce industry leading training computers and will learn from past mistakes to stay the preeminent leader of sport wearables.

Best regards to all and much success in whatever you endeavor to achieve!

”Beat Yesterday”

  • First and foremost, Thank You for your service!

In addition, thank you Sir  for that AWESOME DOSE OF POSITIVITY, which was very much needed on this forum

  • Great post, thanks. And... Well it is true that usually people come to the forum (actually pretty much all of them, not only this one) when they have issues to solve or something to complain, much more rarely just to say everything is fine, but really great to see this happening every once in a while...

After all... People are here since they own Garmin devices, and I am convinced that the vast majority actually mostly love them...

  • Thanks fishboy420 - it was my pleasure and honor to serve. I was feeling a huge sense of gratitude after completing the marathon and I felt like I needed to pass that on. My gear was a large part of my success and so I came here to share that with you all.

  • Hi Frankysour, I think you are right when you say the “vast majority actually mostly love them”. This was part of what I was trying to convey to those of us fortunate to have these great devices and healthy enough to work towards greater fitness goals.

    Be well!

  • Great story, thanks for sharing!

It's nice to see these more positive posts around here, and it always makes me happy to see people getting great use and a lot of value out of their watch.

I absolutely love my 7XSS, and my 6X before that, and even my VA3 before that - I can honestly say that these watches have literally changed my life. Among other things, it helps keep me motivated to stay fit, and to "get out there" and record activities.

I think Garmin's slogan "beat yesterday" is spot on - that's exactly what I use my watch for every day - keeping tabs on how I'm doing, and working to improve myself every day.

Could I still do everything I do without a Garmin watch? Sure. I mean you don't really need anything other than a pair of shoes to exercise. But seeing real numbers and charts that plot my progress over time is a real motivator, and it's helped me tremendously. The watch can spot variations in performance that are too small to feel/notice on my own. A run might "feel" exactly the same as it did the day before, and I may not feel like I'm making any progress - but seeing the numbers change ever so slightly for the better is enough to keep me pushing.

    Same here

  • Congrats on your race and love your post. I have a F6X sapphire and love it. I am very tempted to get a F7X just for the extra battery life even though my F6X is awesome still.  Garmin has always treated me very well and their customer service when I have needed it is on point.

  • Thanks ericallenboyd! I had the Tactix Delta Solar and really didn’t need to upgrade but the feature set to include the flashlight were too much for me to ignore.

  • Thanks C.sco! I have really enjoyed the last few Garmin watches I have owned and so I wanted to share that positive experience with the forums. I am so happy you are enjoying your 7XSS and all the good it has brought to your life. To me this is the essence of what these wrist computers truly represent. Good luck with your training and be well!

You are not a former Marine. You earned the title and you keep it for life, so you are and always will be a Marine.
