Fenix 7 Sensor Glass Durability?

I believe to have seen a crecked sensor already on a DCRainmaker YT video. Or was it Desfit? Not sure but one Fenix oder Epix model defintely already had a cracked sensor. So I believe it to be not as durable, esp when the watch falls on the ground.

Will this somehow reflect on HR accuracy because it reflects or something? No idea, just wondering. 

In terms of durability, the other thing to consider is chemical durability as well as mechanical (although if you’re scratching the glass sensor, you be likely gouging chunks out of a plastic one).  Resistance to DEET based insect repellent is one area that the glass sensor should completely outperform the plastic type. I know Garmin don’t recommend getting insect repellent anywhere near their watches, but that’s simply impossible to comply with when travelling to areas with a high prevalence of mosquitoes and malaria. So, whilst there is always a risk of shattering the glass, that should be mitigated by where the sensor is most of the time (protect next to your wrist) and I’ll happily take the added scratch and chemical resistance in exchange.

The thing is, what kind of glass were they using? Are they the same as the power glass and just Gorilla glass DX? I would assume that it should be more than durable enough since it's by your skin 99% of the time.

Emailed Garmin Hong Kong and they said glass cannot be repaired. 

Others should probably check sensor glass very carefully upon purchase and also treat it delicately.

Seems we are on our own in case of scratches, which can't even be repaired.

Have been careful with the watch and the only instance I can imagine (maybe) causing a scratch would be use of Garmin's own brand titanium bracelet, which could have lightly contacted the sensor glass without me noticing... until I saw the scratches while wiping the watch clean under light...

Well you could also trap sand between your wrist and watch, that would scratch it too.

In the end, we will be buying tempered glass cover for sensor too.

Simple glass, like on windows, should be more durable than plastic.

I am also having the titanium band and taking care to not have it touching the sensor. 

Would definitely buy tempered class protector for sensor if available. Hope it becomes a product.

I checked on Amazon and Aliexpress but couldn't find it. I think it could be possible to have a glass protector because the glass is inside the metal and could be covered by a protector. It can be very useful for people having titanium or metal band.
