Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar Constantly connecting and disconnecting

Hi,

I've only had the watch for 4 days, but already I'd like to throw it away...

Every day, sometimes once and sometimes several times a day, the watch gets into a state where it is constantly disconnecting and connecting to the phone. The watch just connects and then disconnects in 2-5 seconds and then reconnects and then disconnects again in a few seconds and this goes on and on forever.

Turning the watch off and on doesn't help, it keeps happening afterwards. Turning off and on the bluetooth on the phone doesn't help. The only thing that helps is restarting the phone or removing the watch from Garmin Connect and pairing it again but neither of the things help permanently, in a few hours the watch gets into a loop of connecting and disconnecting again and then I have to restart the phone again or remove the watch from garmin connect and pair it again.

It always happens in the morning and sometimes during the day.

I previously had Garmin Fenix 6 PRO Sapphire that worked without issues with the same phone! The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Thank you

  • In every instance thus far, the common denominator thus far is the watch...hence Garmin right?

Wrong. Correlation is not causation. People do different things with different phones. Different phones have different OSs. Nothing is ever as easy as we'd like it to be. No surprises the common denominator is Garmin devices really. This is a Garmin forum.

  • Similiar problem with Fenix 7X Sapphire/Solar and Pixel 6 Pro.  I can resolve the immediate issue by restarting the phone and watch but the issue seems to arrise about once a day regardless.  Will wait for update in Mid May.

  • I have the exact same issue. I've had my watch for about one week and I'm Exhausted at it vibrating every 2 to 5 seconds saying disconnected, then connected. Disconnected, then connected. I have an iPhone 12 pro. My question is what is my watch disconnecting from? My phone? This is extremely annoying, and for the money I feel like I have been ripped off.

  • Android tries to kill the apps in the background, so that it'll allocate more memory for the app in the foreground.

Except this happens with Garmin Connect running in the foreground while I am using it, for example when trying repeatedly and unsuccessfully to sync with my watch. If I look at the device status in the app, I can see that it gets briefly connected, then disconnected again, then later connected and disconnected again, and so on. There is no other activity on the phone at the time.

The phone is Pixel 6 Pro, which has 12 GB of operating memory by the way. Again, the same didn't happen with Fenix 6X.

  • Thanks for sharing, nice to know it's also happening on iOS... this has to be definitely a problem with the watch.

  • Guess it is good that the 7x Sapphire isn’t readily available…maybe now we know why.

  • Same problem, have S21 ultra and Fenix 7 Sapphire solar.
I must restart phone to stability connection.

  • same problem here with Instinct 2 Solar and Pixel 6 Pro, no updates yet?

  • Looks like this is under the rug for some reason.

Our engineering team is working on a resolution. Please refer to our official response at the top of each page beneath the original post. Thank you.

  • suspicious that most people here being affected own a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro device. Must be some incompatibility issue with new Garmin devices and the Pixel phones (only seen two exceptions in this thread with a oneplus and iphone device)

I've owned a forerunner 245 before which worked flawlessly with my Pixel 6 Pro, never had any disconnect.

Since using my new Instinct 2 I'm having these disconnects (already happened during the initial setup of my new watch). It's always getting fixed after restarting my phone. Then, mostly 1 day later, the issue starts occuring again.

What I've already tried (without success):

-Factory Reset of my Instinct 2

-performed a "reset wifi mobile bluetooth" on my phone

-enabled new Gabeldorsch bluetooth stack in Developer options of my phone

-cleared cache/storage of garmin connect app and re-installed garmin app
