As muppetman said switch it off in device menu, however, make sure you find the Bluetooth and Ant+ connections.

I am having trouble with a new HRM600 that keeps connecting, even thought it’s my only device (Fenix 6X exchange underway)’. I’ve had to resort to aluminium foil around sensor to stop it randomly connecting (up to 20 meters away). The random heart rate reading occurs at 0330 or 0430 for 2 hours. It collects data whether it’s connected to Connect or not even though it’s sitting on a wooden desk.

During a strength workout I got the message "external heart rate monitor connected". My HRM-pro was nearby hanging out to dry. At the end of the workout the watch said it could not find the monitor and I selected "skip", but the HR data for the workout was nonsense.

Can I stop this happening? It might occur when the HRM-pro is within range and moving. On this case, blowing in the wind but previously I've gotten nonsense heart rate readings with it on my backpack on my bike

Hi all,

Can anyone help!

Noticed a few days ago that my wrist heart rate sensor isn't working. I've installed the latest software update and nothing has happened. Has anyone else had similar issues? The Baro, Alt and H / L are also not updating.

Chances are this will be a quick fix but I've currently tired everything, including a full system reset on the watch and nothing has helped.

This is a good observation of the 6X behavior.

I have used 2 different fenix 6Xs (sapphire) and one thing that I clear to me is that they have general deep rooted GPS and Wifi issues. After my first one could not find Wifi and also took minutes to connect to GPS, Garmin offered to exchange it for me for a refurbished one at a low price. One year down the line, the exact same issues I had with my original 6X started developing on my current 6X. It lost capability to find Wifi and I am lucky if it locks to GPS when I want to record an activity. That is despite many soft and hard resets. Surprisingly people with older Garmin watches seem to be having none of these issues

My conclusion : the Fenix 6X line was faulty from the factory and it was bound to fail.

Hello all, I’ve never posted something here before, but I decided to do it now(have been lurking for quite a while). I have a good opinion about Garmin in general, I like their products. I love data, and their gear provides it. For a few months now, I’m having problems with getting GPS fixes with my Fenix 6X, sadly like many people.

Basically I work in the field of instrumentation and control and also do a lot of data analysis and setting up automated processing. So I know my fair share of sensors, data and debugging. But there seems to be no pattern. I wouldn’t say it’s an hardware fault, since it has worked flawless, so I keep coming back to bad software or interfaces. I know the setup is in a way sub-optimal (metal casing), I understand the bounds of accuracy and am fine with that. It seems that locations matters a lot, yet I also find situations which seem to contradict this.

The GPS functionality works very sporadic in my opinion. Some weeks it works perfect, other weeks I give up getting a fix and just go. Compared to my Fenix 5 (different chipset, I know) that I used in the past, it is unreliable regarding the GPS. The Fenix 5 was super quick. If I would leave my apartment in Greece, it would get an instant fix in between high buildings, next to a transmission tower. Never experienced any problems like this with the Fenix 5, always fire and forget.

Anyway, I’ve tried to troubleshoot and debug it myself, so here is a list of things I’ve tried. And later numerous examples of the watch working perfect and bad. Lately I’ve been running more with other people, so now I have some good comparisons too. Maybe this is helpful for someone, or Garmin. So I gathered all interesting information I could think of

What I have tried:

all different gps settings (GPS, GPS+Galileo, GPS+GLONASS)
- for each of these I repeated this method:
- 1. stand absolutely still with the watch horizontal 50 cm in front of you
- 2. turn 90 degrees after 20 seconds
- repeat this 4 times until you get a fix
- This test proved to me that GPS+Galileo gives the quickest fix, not necessarily the highest accuracy. Still, in general I need more then 2 minutes to get a fix with this method. And I would say that in 40% of the cases I can’t get a fix within 2 minutes and I just go.
Powering on and off (of course)
resetting to defaults
removing from Garmin connect and adding it again
remove CPE.bin, re-synchronize watch, check if CPE.bin was updated via PC and watch (it did update)
- Also checked if the CPE was current, it was
Also did something in the debug/developer menu (you press a button when starting, don’t exactly remember)
Never really installed any beta firmwares/software. But made sure I was running the latest versions.
- Except for maps. I’m on a slow internet connection and I use it all the time, so it would take 2 days at least. And not running windows native, and didn’t take the time to setup Garmin express on Linux, so that’s an extra barrier.
Practically always carrying my phone with me.

Same route as 12-04-2020, it is through a forest so tracking could be less accurate. Weather was great, almost no clouds.

Fenix 5

And I cycled there with no problem. Upon arrival I immediately stopped cycling activity and started running activity. It still took ~2 minutes to get a fix, but I didn’t notice the fix was lost after a short distance of running

Fenix 6X

Waited for 1 minute, then left. But kept arm horizontal while running the first few hundred meters. Got a fix a bit later.

Fenix 5X

same run, different person

There was a third person with a Garmin Instinct Tactical. This watch also tracked perfectly fine.

12-04-2020

Fenix 6X

Same route as 17-04-2020, this time it got a quick GPS fix and it tracked the whole route. This day it was less cloudy then 17-04-2020

20 second for GPS Fix, no problems at all.

Fenix 6X

This is a funny one. I wait for 2 minutes to get a fix (at the location you see in the picture) and it doesn’t work. Again I run with 2 other people and they had no problems getting a GPS fix. After the run we do stretches where we started, and I get a GPS fix after stretching for 40 seconds.

Fenix 5X

Tracked perfectly fine, just as another Garmin. But not the 6X.

I can’t remember how long the fix took here. I want to make clear that this is acceptable to me, with a sub-optimal design and the conditions here (forest) the path can be bad. This could be smoothed in the future by trying to figure out where someone runs (use popularity heat-map, nice data source). Or maybe just fine tuning of the chipset.

Fenix 5X

A very similar watch(construction wise) tracks really good on the same route, this could be due to the use of another chipset. Also it’s older, it had more time to be fine tuned???

There are enough good and bad examples (you can find them on my connect profile) (I’d guess almost 50/50) of getting a GPS fix, so I’ll stop giving them. Instead, I checked which tracks are okay and which are not (in my opinion) and put it in a table. More useful in the end. You can see the plot of the results below(I can give the table if needed, it's big though). From April and onward GPS fixes are sporadically bad

I can’t really trace which software versions were running in the past, since I don’t see any dates in the changelogs.

But it’s visible that it started working bad somewhere between 03-02-2020 and 13-03-2020.

Because it is so sporadic, and it used to work great before (fenix 5 grade tracking), I believe it’s a software/firmware issue. I hope this may help Gamin figure out what is wrong. Or help other people in their decisions.

Enduro crash

Hey team, I have an enduro V1 and am wondering for future how the *** I back date to SW 27.xx or whatever it was.

It’s developed an odd crash issue where I open the calendar widget which has DSW and it crashes mostly every time.

Everything else seems to work as needed but I was just curious if the previous software may fix it.

The enduro page has been archived and I see all the firmware drops it’s bundled into this forum of the 6 series.

Any ideas woukd be much appreciated

I forgot to mention that after GE misidentifies Enduro as “Fenix V19.30” GC adds an Enduro displays as device icon.

Hello,

My Fenix 6 Sapphire watch is stuck in the Blue triangle, notorious case as I ve seen on forums. As this is old model, it is not subject to replacement by Garmin.
However, I would really like to recover it If possible, as I just bought brand new battery for it.

Offical Garmin apps struggle to detect the watch, GarminExperss failing to detect it. Old Garmin Web update app always detects it, wants to update, but each time
it finishes download the firmware it says firmware file is corrupted.

Under Linux, If I plug my watch in while holding the Start button , I'm able to also pick up the divice on USB bus and there is also ttyUSB serial device created
by Linux kernel garmin driver driver.

I'm using pygarmin Python free scripts to communicate with the watch. It reports that Garmin Link protocol level 1 is supported by the running watch.

Fenix 6X Sapphire Stuck in Boot Up Cycle

Today I updated my Garmin app. A couple minutes later I noticed my screen was frozen. I did a soft reset as I have many times for maintenance.

1. The watch shut off and rebooted

2. but got stuck between the logo screen and the white Garmin font.

3. watch just keeps shifting from logo to white Garmin font.

I called Garmin and they had me follow the hard reset instructions. It did not work. I can not connect to my computer because the watch will not boot up.

my only option from Garmin is a $190 replacement. I spent over $700 on this watch a tad over a year ago and this is the only option for a watch on mint condition.

Can anyone help me fix me watch?

You are lucky, my Enduro with blue triangle loop is not replaceable at all and actually it was a replacement a year ago under warranty.

Even at that time the original stainless version was not available at Garmin Europe either, so I had to accept the other version, the black one. Even with this flexibility the whole process took 58 days. So I claimed an extra warranty of 58 days over the original 2 years

It was my mistake to give the replacement Enduro to my son without testing it before. And my “good” son did not tell me anything about the gps fix problem which ended in a bootloop for months, so warranty expired at tge end of last summer.

I tend to agree. The watch I wish to revive had shown strange gps behaviour before I started to test different earlier sw versions, finally 20.50.

The sign was that it got a gps fix after minutes when the sky was clear, cpe.bin was current.

Since it did not get the green circle, just red (not even an orange) I added a map (blank in case of Enduro, but the tracklog is a good proxy of whether the watch had a fix or not) and I was also watching gps accuracy data field for minutes.

I observed that GPS accuracy quite easily achieved 4 from 5 bars, 5 bars just for a fraction of seconds, then back to 4. And for a second or two it went down to zero and back immediately to 4.

This phenomena reflected perfectly with the live tracklog.

So as a summary GPS as a hardware seemed to be dying.

The only small difference in my case with an Enduro is that both GE and Webupdater correctly displays the S/N and the unit ID none of them is able to correctly identify the watch type and the actual sw version. They say my Enduro with a sw 20.50 is a “Fenix v19.30”, so no “6” after the Fenix.

All the other details are the very same.

My Fenix 6 pro is not booting.

If I plug it in the bue triangle appears but that's it, if I keep it plugged for the whole night then in the morning the screen changes to a white text with Garmin written (photo attached).
If I unplug it I can turn it off by pressing for ~10 sec the top left button.
If I try to perform a master reset, by pressing both the right buttons end then turn the watch on, it does not go on, the blue triangle appears but after a couple of second it diappears, I suppose the watch turns off. -the watch was unplugged-
I tried to enter the service menu, by pressing the bottom left button while turning on the watch, but same as above the blue triangle disappears after a couple of seconds. -the watch was unplugged-

I opened the watch to check if the problem is the battery that cannot keep the charge but it does not seems to be that.
Even with the battery unplugged, the watch is stuck on the blue triangle and of kept plugged for the night the same white text logo is present in the morning.
I checked the voltage of the battery after a night of charge and is 4.10V, the battery shouldn't be dead.

I am just struggling with a dead Enduro, and at least I achieved a state when both GE and Webupdater identified it, although wrongly and no update is possible.

It was just 20.50 as a backdate of 20.82 which killed my son’s Enduro in the same way as you described. This backdate version may have been corrupted, because the dead Enduro is identified as “Fenix v19.30” both by webupdater and garmin express in Garmin mode (holding Start button from the moment of power on).

These days when nobody has a valid warranty as regards a F6 or Enduro playing with this 20.50 version is a killer move.

There are more ways to reset the watch. Some of them are documented in the manual, others are undocumented, and may not work with every model, but it is worth of trying more of them. I am attaching link to couple of posts describing them, but if you search the forum, you may be able to find out some others as well:

If nothing of it helps, you best return the watch to the original owner, and ask for a refund.

If the unattended master reset is not possible or does not help, and if you can access the storage of the watch while it is connected over the USB cable to a PC, I would reinstall an older firmware rollback version. Perhaps your current firmware is corrupted.

I gave up. The customer/technical support is useless. We pay several hundred euros and we might have some luck for a few years, after that Garmin doesn't care.

I have the some issue with my Fenix 6 sapphire.. i had troubles with the Bluetooth connection and the time displayed was wrong but the watch worked. After i updated it, it is stuck in the Same bootloop AS you described. I tried Hard and Soft Reset many Times without success.. Garmin Support says it is a Hardware fault and only öfters the Same replacement Discount ..

To be frank it doesn`t feel Like a Hardware defect and that this is Not repairable is actually very disappointing for such a high price and class Watch..
