Garmin Fenix 6X Pro battery drain

My Garmin Fenix 6X Pro battery has just started draining at an alarming rate. It does not even last 1 day from fully charged. Software is 27.0. This has only just started happening. I did connect it to Garmin Express a recently, but not sure if it downloaded any updated. Any advice gratefully received.

  • UPDATE. Joined Beta program and updated to v28.01. Issue persisted. Watch draining and complaining it could not connect to Wifi. Had chat with Garmin Support. Their suggestion was to perform a "reset default settings" on the device. Did this and waited an age for it to come back life (loading FIT files and maps etc).

After this the device kept locking up, the "Steps" counter stayed on zero, the start button wouldn't work if I tried to record a run. Neither the  wifi or USB would not connect (proper broken). So I had to bite the bullet and pay Garmin £156 for an out of warranty replacement.

In desperation I tried one more thing. I did a reset but chose the option "Delete Data and Reset Settings". Did this again waiting a long time for watch to come back to life. Deleted old device from Connect and my Bluetooth list, re-paired, hey presto everything seems to be working and battery holding charge. One thing I did notice was a strange version of the Wifi code before I did the reset, think it was 655.35 or something similar. After last actions it is now v4.01. Now going to see if I can cancel the £156 I paid them and get that refunded.

  • The watch has failed again after 3 days of my "fix" above ! WiFi code ver again back to v655.35. I disabled the WiFi as I don't need it, however, still cannot connect via USB. If I connect via USB the watch does charge but when unplugged gets stuck on the Charging % screen. Need to do a forced re-boot. Looks like it could be hardware issue. This a replacement for the 6X I bought originally in 2022, that suffered a broken button issue. Unfortunately even though this replacement watch is less than 12 months old, its not covered under any warranty ! Really not happy with this especially with a series of races coming up.
