Using the Garmin 6 watch to record 4wd tracks and then loading it into Garmin IOS explore app to use the iphone to navigate

I have a Garmin Fenix 6, i record 4wd trips via the Trackme function. I have then synced them to the iphone app Garmin Connect where they just fall into the Activities section along with my Cardio activities related to running or gym attendance.

I then bring them into Garmin Explore.

I wish to use the Garmin Explore app on the iphone as a Navigation aid.

If I go out to repeat the track I previously recorded on the watch, I want to use the iphone and Explore to guide me.

Q1)

Is this achievable?

Q2)

In Explore, it seems to bring in the activity as a course. What is best between a

Route

Track

Course ?

A route seems to be the worst as it requires navigable maps, a signal and “Routes are best suited for reaching a specific destination, or set of destinations, when the path being taken is not important”

Tracks:  “Tracks are best suited when it's necessary to travel on a very specific path to reach the desired destination. When navigating a track it's possible to recreate an exact hike or ride that you or someone else has completed previously. If you go off course on a track, the GPS unit will redirect you back to the original path rather than recalculating a new one.”

Course: seems to be similar to a track but I saw someone write “Tracks you just have to look at on the GPS and follow it visually. A course actually tells you the distance and direction that you have deviated and in certain circumstance can tell you to turn.

  • A1) Should be.

A2) A little history. Explore was originally designed for "exploration"...backpacking, cross country skiing, etc. In those days, a track was what was recorded on a device, and a route was the planned path, defined using a map. In the last several years, Garmin has attempted to integrate across various platforms. Now a route acts more like an automotive GPS, where the computer assumes you're starting at your current location and then calculates how to get to the destination you input. Both routes and tracks are gpx format. Courses and activities come from the Connect (fitness watch) platform. They can be similar to routes, but you need to input at least the starting point and the destination. The file format is fit.

The Explore app supports all of these file types and you can convert from one to another. If you want to just follow a track line visually, use Tracks. If you want the app to give you instructions, which you have to read, then you can use Course or Routes.
