Recent Galileo GNSS Upgrades

Does anyone know if the recent upgrades to Galileo have made any improvements to the Fenix 6 GPS accuracy, speed, or anything else?

Supposedly at least some of the upgrades are helpful without software/hardware changes to existing receivers.

Information here:

I have been using GPS + Galileo in the USA and haven't noticed anything positive or negative.

  • Interesting news BUT the way that press release is carefully written, it sounds like while the improved signal remains backwards compatible with existing receivers, to take advantage of the upgrades the receivers need to decode additional information added to the signal.

The Sony GPS chip in the Fenix6 series is a mess. And Sony would have to give Garmin upgraded microcode. Don't hold your breath.

Sony chipset can also decode the huge BeiDou network but Garmin refuses to activate it on the Fenix firmware sold outside of China.

    > "In order to benefit from the excellent accuracy of the Galileo system, the user has also to retrieve the corresponding navigation message from the Galileo signal even in challenging user environments - so the faster the better. In the Galileo navigation message, there was sufficient spare data capacity available to address this improvement."
