Should I proceed with these "updates" on my Fenix 6s Sapphire ?

Hi there.

So, I live in Greece and I've bought my Fenix 6s Sapphire from Germany.
On the initial setup - a few months ago - if I remember well it asked me which maps I wanted to download.
I chose what I wanted and I do have these maps on my watch:

Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR
TopoActive Europe 2021.20, Central
Garmin Ski Map 2.00 (disabled)
TopoActive Europe 2021.20, West
TopoActive Europe 2021.20, East

BUT, everytime I plug my watch via USB to my Windows PC, Garmin Express sees some "updates" on these (see screenshot below). It makes me wonder. Should I install these "updates" ? Are those even real updates, or is it just Garmin Express acting weirdly ? I mean, I supposedly don't even have these "North / South America + Pacific" courseview maps on my watch, so how come GE sees these as "updates" ? I'm also kind of afraid it might remove the maps I do have on the watch, which is something I do not want to happen.

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

  • Why do you think it's Garmin acting weird?

Courseview are golf courses maps, and the watch has them for all the world.

Nobody forces you to update them, if you don't want.

  • To be fair, ’Courseview' is not really self explanatory and has caused confusion many times before. They should have just called them 'Golf Maps'. Would probably als reduce server load, because 90% ofSmile people would not download them if they knew that it is Golf maps only.Smile

  • What I was asking above was actually why I'm getting updates for maps that are not within the territory / continent my topo maps are.
I had no idea that the CourseView maps are Golf maps nor that the installed Golf maps are for all the world.
Anyway, I guess I should just ignore these prompts. I'm not even interested in Golf, let alone in another continent.

    Thanks.

  • I agree, but all it takes is Google.

Besides, Courseview can be made a trade mark, Golf maps can't. I think it's the same reason why outdoor maps are called Trekmaps and relief maps are Topoactive.

  • Wow gspinoza: a tad unfriendly, possibly? Or maybe an un-accomplished PB? We're meant to be helping each other here, methinks... It also took me a while (whilst delving into various subjects on this very helpful forum) to discover that 'CourseView Maps' have absolutely nothing to do with my Running or Cycling 'Couses' I have constructed... Those, btw, are accessed via the 'Training' section in your 'Connect' app, and have nothing to do with golf. Have a fabulous, chilled day.

  • I didn't mean to be unfriendly, but the question the opener poses has been answered many times. Forums are to help each other, I agree, not to post the same question over and over. Search before asking is considered standard since the beginning of internet, and at that time the most polite answer would have been rtfm.

I did know what CourseViews are because I searched around a lot, not because I asked such an easy-to-answer question in a forum in the first place.
