This is pretty cool - could be a useful tool if you start seeing sensor drop outs

At least you and me love them. And we expressed this love, since we have 6 Tempes altogether.
OK, my new hypothesis is that the Sensors are displayed in GCM if and only if:
- your sensor reports battery status
- you social security number's 5th digit is a prime
- the 7th digit of the sensor…
Tempe certainly deserves more love! It won't show as a sensor in this list, because the sensor ID of a Tempe is never stored in activity FIT files. But that has advantages; you can record data from more…
Had to pair with BT
Great, as I said I knew it sent via BT. I knew it, because I use LightBlue app to check the exact battery percentage after Stryd as a company removed it from the firmware of Stryd as a hardware.
The only problem is that Stryd as a company counterproposes to pair Stryd as a hw via BT.
Check this support.stryd.com/.../360038364714-Best-practice-for-pairing-Stryd-with-Garmin-watches
Afaik there is no BT option for Tempe at all.
So it has no other choice than ANT+.
Looking at the ANT profile they transmit -- so we won't get battery status via ANT as they don't transmit it.
So its getting quite clear why sensors do or not show up in this list now (mostly) and why last run paired via ANT didn't show.
It’ s not me, I dont even have a reddit account:
”It's always on. Only way to stop it is to remove the battery. While you can't get a charge level, if you pair the Tempe then go into its entry in Sensors, you can see something like "Battery: OK".”
Hmmm
Hmmm, maybe different batches? Or different softwares?
I will check it when I have my Tempes around.
It’ s not me, I dont even have a reddit account:
I must be losing the plot - I didn't mention Reddit and nor did anyone else?!
I need a lie down )
I just meant that I am not the only person on this globe who thinks his Tempe checks it battery status, there is somebody else who said it on Reddit, too.
So I did my own couple of experiments with the sensor I have available in this moment (a cheap but functional "Decathlon dual" chest strap):
first, connected via ANT+, no battery shown on watch even after several minutes (it appears to me this strap does not transmit this information through ANT+), and no sensor showing on GCM as expected.
second, recorded a 5 mins fake activity while connected through ANT+ (even during and after these 5 mins no battery shown on the watch) - no sensor showing on GCM as expected
third. connected via BLE - battery shows up on the watch, but even after a further sync to GCM no sensors shown on connect
fourth, recorded another few minutes fake activity with strap connected via BLE, and boom, after sync sensors section appeared and my cheap strap was there showing it's full battery!
So yes... in order for the sensors section and the sensors themselves to appear in connect it seems that it is needed to have:
- sensor correctly communicating battery status to the watch
- recording an activity while the above is true - so I guess having the battery value recorded in the relevant .fit file
nothing new I guess, just confirming what seen up to now
Ow, one more thing, probably obvious but I will mention... even after having deleted the fake activities from connect the sensors section and the sensor itself with the latest checked battery information remained there.
cheers!!
Looking at the ANT profile they transmit -- so we won't get battery status via ANT as they don't transmit it.
I think you’re still talking about the Tempe? They do transmit battery low status at least, but not often. Most ANT+devices transmit at 4 Hz, Tempe transmits two different messages alternating once every two seconds (so 4 seconds for the complete current/lowest/highest temp message set), with occasional battery messages mixed in about once a minute, and there are a few other status messages they can send if the watch requests it.
Mine currently needs a new battery and the watch told me about it before it went.

I've not mentioned the Tempe at all, I was talking about Stryd...!
