Fenix 6 Series - 20.82 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please email the Garmin Outdoor Quality Team if you find issues in software after installing this update: [email protected]

If you’ve participated in the Fenix 6 Beta Program previously, you’ll notice a few changes from how we have managed this in the past. And further down the line, we’ll have some additional improvements to the Beta Program (more on that later!) Notably, this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. (There will be more options for viewing change logs after we implement the additional improvements to our beta program.)

The links to download the software update are listed below. Select the link specific to your watch model. Please note that your computer will download a .zip file when you open this link. This zip contains the software update, as well as a folder with the file necessary for backdating software, and instructions for this process if you choose to do so. Remember, backdating software will reset all settings.

Use these links to download the zip for your watch to update to version 20.82:

  • I wonder how I can delete the preinstalled strength workouts after a reset now? Somehow I can't find an option. It was very easy before without the animations coming first etc juts options of specific training and at the end "delete".

  • Uh, I no longer seem to be able to delete strength workouts from my watch. It works for other activities, but the delete option is missing in the revamped strength activity. Weird.

Edit: 9728506 beat me to it.

Edit 2: Muscle mapping definitely doesn't work properly on my watch.

  • Wow same question within minutes. Hehe.

Yeah annoying, as I need to skip those when choosing one of MY NEEDED workouts. Maybe a bug?

But I like the new style of the strength app and strength workouts.

Overall watch seems a little faster, more fluent. Did a reset though after this bigger update.

One more thing when reordering acitvities on phone, some still appear on last position aftzer a sync. I needed to reorder around 5 times now and two of around 5 wrongly odered acitvities still in wrong order.

EDIT: Now if I am ccorect only thing missing imo from DCRainmaker confirmed additions is Health Snapshot which according to his Garmin contacts will come to the F6 series too. Maybe in FW 21.00?

  • Maybe or they just forgot about it.

I just added some random workouts to check if the muscle mapping works for Garmin workouts. It doesn't and now I can't get rid of them, either. Darn it. Sweat smile

I like the new style, too.

  • THE ONLY thing I noticed so far is that my Recovery hours deleted ( I had 18 hours till full recovery before updating to 20.82) . Kind of sucks but whatever, will continue monitoring.

After reading your post, I made a point of syncing to Garmin Connect BEFORE updating. My recovery time seems OK - 19 hours before and after update.

    Thanks for the warning.

  • Okay, I plugged my watch into my computer and manually deleted the unused strength workouts (by deleting the files) -- and now the muscle mapping works. What the... well, never look a gift horse in the mouth.

  • Any hope that the WHR is better with this version? Quite a big version jump for that... from version 2.00.4 with 20.50 to 5.00.5 with 20.82 Slight smile

  • This update or probably sensor hub 18.00 has completely broken wrist HR for me.

After update I noticed my HR was 'stuck' around 67-70 when I should have been around 50 to 55 BPM.

I restarted the watch and the HR stayed at -- and couldn't be found in the HR widget

After several minutes the reading did come back back WAY too high as confirmed by my HRM Pro - Garmin Connect is showing wrist HR, HRM Pro is connected to Wahoo Utility and overlaid (the resting reading is from last night with 20.42, I updated to 20.82 about an hour ago)

  • Might be slow locking on.. IIRC when HR starts, I think it assumes a value of about 70 and then does some calc's to lock on. You got any CIQ watch faces etc that might be slowing the watch down? That sounds like some process is hogging the watch CPU perhaps?

  • You got any CIQ watch faces etc that might be slowing the watch down?

No, I never use CIQ watch faces.
