Battery issues after update 19.20

After updating my Fenix 6X to version 19.20, my battery is draining extremely fast. I took my watch off the charger at 0600 this morning with 100% and by 1400 it was already down to 70% charge. Before the update I would maybe be at 97%. I haven’t even used the device to track any activity, listen to music, and my pulse ox is turned off.

  • Today's battery life 'drain of shame' update - after a relatively good couple of days with around 11% consumed a day, I've lost 22% since around this time yesterday. Just 30 minutes GPS used yesterday, 1 hour indoor cycling today. The Coros Pace 2 also worn with identical usage, and identical ANT sensor connections ie power, speed, HR used 8% in the same time period (which is pretty crazy as it's smaller and thinner so must have a lower capacity battery)

That is an 80% drop since full charge 5 days ago (100% Thursday, 20% Tuesday)

19.20 / no wifi (always off) / no Pulse OX (always off) / Sleep  power saver is 10PM / 730AM / No CIQ watchfaces, just default / 24 hour oHR / BT On / maps and navigation features never used

    Was at 42% yesterday

    64% on Saturday

    100% Thursday

PS: There is method to my madness doing this daily update publically.... ;)

  • thinking slowly, I have the impression that before the 19.20 it was better and with Oximeter working. Yes, finally something is wrong!!!

  • My battery life has dropped drastically too!  3 weeks ago I wore it for 14+ hours during a full IM and now it barely lasts 2 days with no activity.  Charged to 100% sunday afternoon and down to 17% less that 48hrs later.  Mine also stopped locating satellites.

  • i had same issue, please backdate on some oldest version. a did and my battery drain fixed!

  • How did you backdated in an oldest version? I would also like to backdated to 16.70

  • I would like to do it too! Do you know if it can invalidate the warranty? my f6xpro solar is not even 1 year old.

  • I still have 15.20 backdate from a 15.xx beta - so I am going to try this.

  • OK...so early signs of moving down to 15.20 looking good...downgrading was a lot less painful than I thought.....I did have a few problems getting my watch to reconnect to Garmin Connect..and then the watch did a VERY long sync to my phone, took well over an hour. A lot of the stuff was still on the watch ie previous activities etc etc

So after the very long sync, I recharged to 100% which finished at 1130 PM UK time, and now about 9 hours later, I have 97% battery. Also the watch did not go into power save mode last night (it usually does between 10PM and 730AM) probably because it was still charging...whereas that was enabled on 19.20 so probably 3% overnight can be improved. As usual I disable any annoyances like notifications during device setup, and I no not use pulxe ox, wifi, ciq watchfaces etc.

I have not connected any of my sensors yet - and this is one thing in which everyone uses their watch differently...I will see what happens as I introduce sensors and do some activities.....I am taking photos of the watchface with battery levels showing, I will all bore you with later, so we can try to see if this downgrade thing actually helps....

I took a copy of the power consumption logs from Garmin/debug before doing the downgrade for hopefully some more empirical analysis.

  • But so if I want to upgrade to version 16.70 from my 19.74 (beta) what can I do? Would the procedure be the same as garmin's to install betas?
