do you wear Fenix when riding with Edge?

Hi all who have both Fenix and Edge and use Fenix 24x7.

I wear my Fenix 24x7 to have sleep tracking, body battery, recovery time, etc. Recently I bought Edge 530 so both devices are supporting PhysioTrueUp. I wonder whether I should wear the Fenix while riding using Edge. As Garmin does not recognize same activities recorded on 2 devices I see following options:

* Start activities on both devices and discard one of them at the end

* record activities on Edge and just wear Fenix. (in order to have HR recorded in the 24x7 mode and body battery)

* record activity on Edge and leave Fenix at home (to have an even tan on your hands)

How do you do this? Of course this is the question to those, who wear Fenix 24x7. If you get off your Fenix for the night, or so, you probably dont care a about it :)

  • This is what I do, but sometimes I'll check my Fenix 6 and it won't have the "right" HR.

My Edge830 will show 144 or something from the HR strap, but my fenix6 Pro will be showing 88bpm (from the data field shown on watchface).

If I go into HR widget, it will suddenly "wake up" and start recording much closer to the HR strap value.

My concern here is how well I'm actually tracking activity minutes. 80% of my activity is done on my bike, which is recorded exclusively on my edge.

  • I have both the edge and the Fenix reading the chest strap, no issues with heart rate

  • But I'm just wearing my Fenix "as a watch". My HR strap is paired to it, but doesn't seem to automatically "find it" if I just put the strap on.

It's not constantly searching for sensors in watch mode is it?

  • The solution is simple:

I use the Edge 1030 Plus (actually mostly the Karoo 2 these days) for following a route/reading the map and viewing metrics, while also recording the activity on my 6XPS. I would always discard the activity on the cycling computer and save the one on the Fenix.

This is the only way to get activity minutes and get consistent training status/load metrics for both cycling AND running+other sports.

  • Thats actually quite interesting, the most of you is using Fenix to finally record the activity. I actually thought that Edge is a better device than Fenix to especially record temperature, altitude, gps reception etc. And actually Physio TrueUp should take care of syncing recovery time, intensity minutes...

  • Physio True Up doesn't include intensity minutes.

  • Or body battery- for obvious reasons.

  • yep, my bad, you are right. But actually both of them can be covered by just wearing the watch. And if you don't care about intensity minutes (me e.g. training 8-13hours a week) the body battery will adjust almost immediately adjust itself.

General question - am I wrong, that recording quality from Edge should be actually slightly better than from Fenix? Are there other reason to record from Fenix and discard from Edge (even if I would record on both, my first thought would be discard from Fenix). I am not telling you are doing wrong :) I am just trying to understand your reasons, because maybe you are right and I just don't see everything :)

  • I use Fenix 24x7 + Edge 530 + HRM Dual Premium. Usually I start a cycling activity only on the Edge 530 but I have troubles with the HRM reading because It is discontinuous. I am thinking there is some miscommunication due to the presence of the Fenix that I use just as watch. I am not taking into account problems with the strap because starting an activity by Fenix the HRM graph is perfect. Next time I will try disconnecting the strap from the Fenix while cycling. Have anybody experienced something similar?

On the bottom a cycling activity on Edge
