Have a look at the following comparison between Garmins own HR monitors:

The Polar H10 is, by feature, almost identical to the Garmin HRM-Dual. The only…
I started with an HRM-Dual, which worked great. No complaints. I ended up upgrading it to a HRM-Pro so that I could get Running Dynamics data from it (without having to wear an additional RD Pod) and for…
I think this is the HRM-RUN model that Eric.K is writing:
-Garmin HRM-Run Monitor Code: 010-10997-08
I have one, and before I stripped the screws it worked really well. If you get one, get a GOOD quality 00 screwdriver to change the battery. Since I did that and replaced the back plate, I had one weird set of data from it but I cant tell if that was a dying battery or possible water ingress.
The sensor itself works really well
I hesitate between HRM RUN (older version with detachable sensor) and new HRM RUN with non-detachable sensor, Price is the same, which would be your recommendation
Personally - the older one simply because if the strap goes you can pick up a replacement and then slap the sensor on it. Stat's wise they're identical. You'll get all the Running Dynamics.
Bear in mind though, if you don't care about Running Dynamics, the Dual may be better..... It is also a separable sensor.
I would really like to hear someone else’s opinion and experience regarding the Garmin HRM-RUN but an older version (Garmin HRM-Run Code: 010-10997-08) with a detachable sensor. If someone uses it, let them write their experience.
I had one for four years. Worked perfectly, just as the new "red" HRM-Run does. Changed when I sold my F3 and upgraded to F6.
Check out this YouTube video (not mine). It shows the way that my red hrm-run failed. Looking in the comments, there seem to be a lot of folks that had the exact same crack, squishy o-ring, and water damage.
Unfortunately, I caught the damage on mine too late to save it.
As you might guess, I recommend the older detachable version.
Have you had experience with the Garmin HRM RUN to have occasional downtime during activities? You can see the breaks in the picture below, is this common for HRM chest straps or is the problem only in this one?
