Running of some CIQ widgets on Fenix 6 Pro seem to be Activity Profile dependant

Some of the widgets I have installed  on my Fenix 6 Pro are

GRouteLoader https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/6b770e92-2cc6-437e-8de2-0efae208a455

SmartThings https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/dbc89b4c-cc82-480d-ae0e-58614272fecc

APIcall https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/ac9a81ab-a52d-41b3-8c14-940a9de37544

I also use the Bike, Walk & Hike Activity profiles on my watch, which are pretty much configured the same apart from the activity type.

What I am seeing is that when I am using the Bike or Walk profiles I can access & use all 3 of the above widgets whilst I’m recording an activity.

However when using my Hike profile I can only use the APIcall widget & when selected; the GRouteLoader & SmartThings widgets won’t launch.

I’ve tried resetting the activity profiles to their default configurations & I’m seeing the same issue on the Hike profile. So it appears to be profile related not some additional configuration option I may have set.

Does anyone know why I can't run these widgets?

  • The SmartThings app is useless for me. All I get is "No Scenes" Dismiss. The developer never responded to any of my queries good luck tho...

  • That's my next step. Though I don't think the dev of GRouteLoader has access to a Fenix & doubt I'll get anything back from Samsung. I just thought I might see if anyone else has had a similar issue with any of their widgets first.

  • I had a look at all three apps and it strikes me in each case, you are trying to do something on the watch that would be a lot easier to do on your phone!

But for CIQ app problems, you need to talk to the developer - personally I'd just uninstall the lot of 'em and move on, they seem to be apps for the sake of apps to me.....

I don't know exactly how the widgets are programmed, but the reason may be that most Garmin devices allow only that 2 widgets/apps/datafields can be used during an activity.

So, please ask the devs of the widgets for further informations.

Yes I could use the APIcall & SmartThings functions from the phone. Doing it from the watch saves getting the phone out of my backpack.

The function provided by the GRouteLoader widget cannot be replicated by the phone as the function is to transfer routes, waypoints, POI's etc from web locations to the watch while recording an activity, which you cannot do with GCM. The widget uses the BT connection to the phone to service those https requests via GCM

The question I am asking is why can use all the widgets in all my sport profiles except the Hike profile? Why should the Hike profile be any different to the others?

The datafield limit on an sport/activity profile is 2. Each of the listed profiles has 1 CIQ datafield, which is the same on each profile.

You can only run 1 app at a time, which is either a sport activity or a CIQ app.

Widgets can be run whilst recording an activity, hence their usefulness especially GRouteLoader when I need to download a route or POI on the fly whilst I'm already in an recording the activity.

Anyway I've fired the question off to the GRouteLoader dev & raised a support ticket with Garmin. Let's see what comes back
