What's The Point of the Temperature Sensor?

As written in the manual, it’s meant for the user to keep the watch -away- from your body 20’ or so, and then you’ll have a valid reading.

Never used that way though. I bought a Tempe instead.

when I ride my pushbike, I place the watch on the stem or handlebar. It is easier to read. 

I estimate that after ~5min the watch left my wrist the outside temperature is accurate.

I have a Tempe sensor though for when I wear the watch.

Gaijin is right, but there’s a second practical reason - the barometer chip uses a tiny resistive component whose resistance is sensitive to both pressure and temperature, so it needs to measure the exact temperature of the chip to provide stable pressure readings. So, a reading of the internal temperature is important for the pressure readings to make any sense at all.

Ususally in electronics they are piezzo electric or capacitive.

Here's a technical note  for a piezo-resistive component of the kind I'm talking about, which specifically points out that the  "temperature sensor ...is used for compensation of the pressure sensor. The temperature data is also available for outside applications."

You can get the temperature of the air if you wait in cold to freeze for 20 minutes (with the watch on the table) to see ambient temperature or use a Tempe sensor.

Is in Garmin style: is useful but neither the body nor the air temperature is shown. Is kinda a hidden stuff that help the baro bla bla.

In fact is useless to read as data field except is away from the wrist.

A Tempe is the best bet.

Garmin never said, that the internal temperature sensor is for the air temperature or the body temperature. On the other hand it is a bit misleading, that they listed a thermometer in the specs and users might think, it is for air or body temperature. A clarification in the specs would be helpful.
