  • Worked for me, but then i did test the Map activity first and got a GPS connection first that way.

Does it work if you say get a gps lock in Maps, then end it and try then?

Nope.  Good fix in Map App, but then nothing but the dreaded red circle in Sync With GPS.

  • Weird - have you contacted Garmin, they may ask you for sync logs as it sounds like something isn't gelling properly for you there?

Odd thing to test, start an activity with GPS lock, then access the control menu within the running activity (which should have GPS lock itself) and then access the time sync? Any luck?

  • I did 5+ km walking with some running within to try how HR is reacting. And they did some changes, some very good changes. HR was spot on. They didint mention any changes but few of you said that there was so i tried activity and i am very positive surprised.

Tempo compared with HR. Just spot on, bravo Garmin.

The same activity, but just HR graph.

I will try hiking tomorrow. We will si if hiking is fixed too.

I am very pleased Garmin, good job!

  • I have made some test this morning.
For my "cannot authenticate map" i looked  with windows files explorer and GMASUP2.gma missed. Bizarre because i didn't erased it before.
I deleted manually GMASPUP2.img and with garmin express i reinstalled Europen golf map (GMASUP2 and GMADEM1).
After around me loaded relativly fast (<1min) and restart (power off/power on) the watch also (~1m40s) with no "cannot authenticate map" message.

After i install my own map (TopoSummer map France) i doing the same test. Since Europeen topo active map update and before V9.98 i couldn't because the watch or maps lagged.
Initial map loading after map install was long but after around me loaded fast (52sec) and restart (power off/power on) the watch also (~2m10s).

Conclusion, the new V9.98 is in very good way and is a great step to solve Around me and map lag. Good job garmin. However initial loading time after maps install and watch boot still long than before the update Europeen topo active update.

  • This morning I installed 9.98, wiped all maps from the watch and computer, rebooted with 9.98. Then I reinstalled fresh copies of TopoActive Europe, Golf and Ski Maps.

With all maps installed an "Around Me" takes a full minute to display anything. Removing GMAPDEM1.* (to another folder on the watch) speeds things up somewhat, but still slow. Removing all Golf and Ski maps (to another folder) restores full performance, with "Around Me" taking no more than 10 seconds to display results. This is how it was for me prior to 9.98.

So, maybe things are fixed a bit, but not very much, and if you don't need worldwide golf maps I'd suggest leaving them off. Ski might be OK and possibly one golf map only, but I'm sticking with just Europe as that's all I need.

  • Hi,

Since beta firmware 9.9x, during strength activities, between series i do not have HR recovery information anymore. Any idea to recover it during activity ?

I use it to manage my pause between series.

    Thanks

  • With update to 9.98, the "loading map" screen stays a long time. I have never had the problem before....let's see how it works in normal operation..

  • In my experience that only occurs after the initial restart following installing the update.
