My Music: Playlists remain after deleting corresponding Folder/Files

On my Fenix 6s Pro, I manage my music by creating a playlist for any folder I plan to copy over to the watch (using the MTP protocol for file transfer), allowing me to play my media by folder using the playlists as proxy. The playlist is located inside the corresponding folder.

However, when I then delete a folder from the watch (this operation does succeed), the playlist of that folder still remains available as an option in "My Music" -> "Playlists". If I select this playlist a "No Songs Available" alert is displayed on the watch.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a workaround which would remove the playlist from the My Music app? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Steps to reproduce (watch software version is 5.00 bde6be3):

  1. On your computer, create a folder and copy some mp3's into it.

  2. Create a playlist inside that folder and name it "[foldername].m3u"

  3. Copy the folder to your Garmin watch using the MTP protocol

  4. Verify the playlist is available under "My Music" -> "Playlists" on your watch

  5. Delete the folder from your watch

  6. The playlist is still be visible in "My Music -> "Playlists" and "No Songs Available" is displayed when selecting it

Failed attempts to solve the issue:

  1. Restarting the watch

  2. Hard resenting the watch does remove the playlists temporarily but does not solve the issue.

  • I just have the exact same issue with my Garmin 255 Music, it was almost same process except that I copy the complete folder with windows file explorer from my hard drive to device Music folder and then inside device Music folder I use context menu to rename the playlist, and the playlist was synched and appeared on the watch everything looked good however also those phantom playlist appears as "new playlist" without any songs!!

    What I've tried so far,

    • Delete Music & Playlists folder on the watch, apparently it works nothings shows up after, in fact after that the watch warned me about no music at all on the device, however after sending a new music and a playlist; bum.... there it goes again with these "phantom" playlists without music.
    • Try to delete only Music folder on windows explorer and a hard reset on the watch, nothing happened the playlists still there

Gosh I thought I was the only one with this problem, it was drived me crazy; I tried contact to Garmin Support on chat but was a complete fiasco nothing but links to basic functionallity of loading songs which was useless

    On the device

  • Also ran into the same issue with the 255 and had four non-existing playlists. With creating a new one with the same name (same as "new playlist", just in German) and then reconnecting and deleting it via Garmin Connect I could remove one... But the same trick does not work for the remaining three.

Weird that they cannot find a solution to such an annoying problem. Using the music function is uncomfortable in general, but this is just a plain bug.
