Fenix 6 Pro shuts down constantly after 5.0 update, unusable

So I was very happy with the watch. All was good. Then I updated to 5.0. Now if I used the quick menu or navigate more than twice it shuts down. Sometimes it takes 20 times to restart it (15 seconds then once) sometimes charging for a minute or two helps it come back, right now it just won't restart no matter what.

I know i can return it, but since it was fine until 5 it seems there is a good chance it is a bug, not hardware. That said, the upper left button seems to shut it down more often than not (not 100% sure, but I think so), and that button seems to not do what it is supposed to all the time, it may do something else on occasion. Just the timing seems odd that all of this only started after 5.0.

I guess 5.72 isn't really coming out for a month or two? I can't wait that long, so that may answer the question right there, I'll just return it. If there was a new firmware coming soon I could perhaps wait.

Any general comments or anyone else getting constant shutdowns after 5.0 update?

So it looked like I finally got the hard restart to work and now it stalls on some odd icon after a long (minutes) ‘loading maps’ process, a line on the bottom and a rectangle tilted on the left side above…

Oh, sorry, relatively new to the watches (been using bike computers for 10+ years), it is a Fenix 6x sapphire if that matters.

I would try to factory reset it first.

Well, indeed - that would take the same amount of extra time setting up a new watch would :)..... I'll try that tonight.

Well, this solution presupposes you can turn the watch on... :) I’ve been unsuccessful all day in turning it on. Annoying as I’m about to do a long hike in the mountains in a couple of hours.

Try one of these two methods, maybe one of them will work:

Both of them starts with turning the watch off which is already done in your case, I hope it helps bringing it back to life.

Maybe the icon is of a garbage truck dumping Garmin junk that doesn’t work at the end of a long day of collecting broken fenix’s? Ha ha.....

I think I’m done... Isn’t it more fun to hold buttons down and stare at empty black screens rather than hike?

Actually this is very important - it is critical to know that we can’t count on these for mountaineering. Some other gos device would also need to be brought if not using paper maps. I guess paper maps are still the best. Critical to know what gear one can count on when deep in the mountains. I *believe* that the inReach can be counted on, but that may be wrong too.
