Physio True Up for Body Battery?

So I've always wanted to be able to wear a Fenix during the day, but just my little vivosmart at night... or maybe sometimes I want to wear a different watch... but with my Fenix 5X that only seems to work with steps since it doesn't do Body Battery, etc. 

Since the 6 series DOES do Body Battery, stress, etc., would True Up combine all those metrics now?

    Physio True Up does not transfer BodyBattery status between devices, neither is any watch recalulating this metric by data received by other devices. (Status: October 2020)

    So finally BodyBattery does NOT work if you use more then one device, making the feature pointless Disappointed

  • The physio trueup doesn’t work as described by Garmin anyway, so who care. I have also had some discusion’s with the customer service. Regarding to their describsion of this function the Fenix 6 and Edge 830 is compatible with each other ( use the same algorithm) . The numbers ( low/high aerob and anaerob) is never in sync, the same with the load, on top of that they skipped (forget?) the intensy minutes on the Edge.

  • I have a workaround for the Body Battery issue. I have had similar disappointment with lack of congruence with my Edge 530 and new Fenix 6.  But I don't use Load, Training Status, Recovery or other training guidance features; I use Training Peaks for that.  The Body Battery calculation on my Fenix 6 does not utilize great heart rate data from a bike ride using another device.  Using the Edge is easier to interface with while cycling, especially on a mountain bike.

    If accurate body battery data is important, I found a workaround with my Fenix 6.  When I am on an outdoor ride, I use my Edge 530.  On an indoor ride, I collect HR, power, and other data from the virtual Zwift platform to send Garmin Connect. In either case, I simultaneously run an "Indoor Cycling" activity on my Fenix 6 to collect HR data.  When I am done with the activity, I "discard" the data the activity on the Fenix 6 watch and save/upload on the other device.  Despite discarding the activity on the Fenix 6 watch, it preserves accurate HR data and uploads it to Garmin Connect as part of the Body Battery calculation.  The advantage of the "Indoor Cycling" activity, or a similar custom profile of your choosing, is that it turns the GPS receiver off, which likely saves battery usage.

    When I tried not running an activity on my Fenix 6 during an activity, leaving it it "rest mode," it grossly underestimates the HR in real time, like reading 90 when my device with a chest strap reads 170 connected to another device!

    When I turned the optical heart rate feature off, or turned the Fenix 6 off entirely, and recorded an activity on the Edge, it showed a blank time interval on my Body Battery graph.

  • I agree this is needed, I had a similar posting on the lack of support for Sleep with Physio True Up.  The argument for Sleep is even stronger because it is a captured event.  it's not an ongoing 24 hour log, like body battery.  What makes it worse is that the battery life on the Forerunner 945 LTE is poor.  That's why I have a Fenix 6 Pro Solar and I prefer to wear that during the day and for some non-running workouts.  I think this issue points more towards issues with the way FirstBeat integrates in Garmin's software.  The fact that to even share the training effect / load with TrainerRoad it has to "play it back" on the devices speaks volumes at how cobbled together the FirstBeat software looks to be on Garmin devices.

  • Thanks , I just had to login to thank you for this suggestion.  There's a few like it around, but yours is the only one I've seen that points out the F6 (F6s in my case) will still use that chest-strap HR data after the "indoor" ride is discarded, which is the best workaround for me right now (of course, no workaround at all would be even better).

    I use an Edge 530 for some longish (for me) travel rides, where I choose to keep my F6s in my backpack (along with a bunch of travel gear). Today I tried recording with both devices (both using an HRM-Pro) and discarded the F6s recording at the end, and as you suggested, the F6s body battery data is much more sane now :)  So thanks again! :)

  • With the battery body true-up updates, I've retired my vivosmart (only used for sleeping) and now I sleep in an Instinct 4S.  The plastic body and smaller size works pretty well for sleeping and there are some great deals on the 4S right now.  

    I do think that Garmin is missing out on an opportunity to sell a bunch of Vivosmart bands for athletes to sleep in.  At the same time, the Instinct 4S has the newer Elevate sensors, so it may provide more consistent data with newer daily wear watches.
