Epix pro gen 2 battery draining (version 26.09)

My epix pro battery is draining within 2 days (normally lasts a few weeks). Known issue with the latest upgrade?

  • Do you use a HRM 600 strap with BLE connection - that drains my battery.

Previously had paired the watch and strap with open ANT+ connection, but due to some actions needed to repair my HRM 600 again, and unfortunately I had already installed the 26.09 sw on my watch. 26.09 won't pair HRM600 and watch with ANT+ connection but forces a BLE connection.
After the BLE pairing, my watch battery is out in 5-6 days whereas before it was appr. 13 days between charging my watch.

Now I disconnect and reconnect the strap after/before activity to improve battery life even a little bit and keep my fingers crossed for a software update that'll fix the connection issue.

Garmin customer service has been very kind in helping to solve the issue, but they have no tricks up their sleeve that would be of any help, now it's up to sw development...

But in any case, try a soft reset (press and hold the light button for 15sec) on the watch if there are some background services left running.  And be in contact with Garmin customer service to report the problem.

  • Please see the following Support Center article which should help in troubleshooting the battery drain you're seeing: Why Is the Battery of My Garmin Watch Draining Faster Than Expected?

  • Same here. Noticed my watch which normally lasts approximately 6-8 days between charges is now draining in 3-4. Something is up with the latest update.I do have a HRM plus which I believe is connected via Ant+, no recent reconnection of that device.

  • On the linked page, can you explain this bullet point: Music Usage: Playing music (whether from your phone, downloaded, or stored on the watch) uses more battery. If your watch supports it, plug it in to charge while downloading music.

This seems to imply that if I have my watch on my wrist, indoors, not doing any activity, that if I'm listening to music playing from my phone to my earbuds, that my Epix Gen 2 battery will drain as a result of this?  Is that right?  How? Why? Thanks!

  • I installed it 2 days ago, and my watch went from 2-3 weeks worth of battery life to 3 days.  I do not have a HR strap and no other settings have changed.

*** UPDATE:***** I completely shut the watch off, then put it on the charger.  I let it charge up to 100% and then turned it on and wore it to bed.  Its been about 16 hours now, and its only dropped 4% on battery life.  Its possible that there was something running in the background from the recent update 26.09 that I performed on Saturday afternoon.

  • Couldn't agree more. It's so bad I had to bring my Fenix 5x plus out of retirement to use GPS for outdoor walks and runs. Battery will hardly last two days on the Epix if used with GPS. Garmin has to acknowledge the issue.

  • I've been experiencing this issue for the last 4 months. On some days the battery drains rapidly, and on some of those same days the heart rate monitor also stops working, though not consistently every day. I've sent my Epix 2 to the local distributor's service center twice, and both times the response was "we could not reproduce the fault." I've upgraded, downgraded, and tried everything suggested, but the problem persists. On affected days, the battery drops from 70% to 10% within about 2 hours.

  • UPDATE II:  Its now been about 2 weeks since I turned it off, did a factory reset, then gave it a full charge. I charged it for the first time this last weekend after 12-13 days of use. Even then, I still had about a day's worth of charge left on it.  I haven't been using much of the GPS features... which might explain some of the initial issues, and still don't have any auxiliary devices attached to it. Whatever the issue was, it seems to have resolved itself.  I am heading out for an extended overseas trip, so we'll see how it does there. If it works, this will be my last update on this thread... if not, I'll report back my experiences.

  • Nothing you do is likely to change things dramatically. I've been dealing with this same issue — along with plenty of other hardware problems — on my Epix Gen 2 for the past year. Even when it gets fixed temporarily, it comes back after a while. Bad luck if you went with the Epix 2...
