Unfortunately nap detection is hopeless and seems to use a low resting HR + lack of movement to falsely detect naps. Loads of us when testing the beta commented in the bug trackers.

This happens to me everyday and it is beyond frustrating and it impacts recovery time as there is always a little notice that says your nap improved your recovery time. There should be a way to turn it…
The roll out of the naps feature has been awful. It’s hard to believe that after people had been asking for it for so long they’d roll it out without proper testing.
It’s making many of the…
Currently disabling the nap auto-detection is not possible, but you can stop the nap in the way described here: Frequently Asked Questions About Tracking Naps | Garmin Customer Support
On one hand, false positive for naps have no serious consequence on the watch metrics as long as they are shorter than 3 hours. Below 3 hours, they are just wrongly categorized rest periods. Your recovery, body battery will benefit from these rest periods. Above 3 hours, the watch will replace your previous night of sleep with the new fake nap. If you care about your sleep analysis score data, you will have to change the sleeping hours back to what they were in Garmin Connect. However, I think the training readiness will still be impacted by the change of night sleep after the correction (sleep history and sleep score are baked in and not correctable there).
On the other hand, the only way to defeat the false positives is to disable the wrist HR. I have set up my battery saver mode to no change except the wrist HR and I use it to prevent fake sleep when I remember. The downside is that the watch will not see the rest period at all and will update your recovery/body battery using fixed rates. The other downside is that you have to remember to turn the wrist HR back on when you go to bed (I have set up an alarm to do just that). How far will I go to curate the metrics? :-)
But i don’t know it’s doing it and then when i find out it’s 2 hours later and it thinks i’ve had a 2 hour nap and i can’t delete it. Very frustrating. This needs to be an option.
The feature doesn't seem too intelligent. Recently, it gave me a nap of 57 minutes, beginning one minute after my usual sleep time (6:30 am) ended, until I got up at nearly 7:30. One would think it would be programmed to avoid recording a nap so soon after waking.

Yes, that's in fact what Garmin claims in their document about the Nap Detection | Garmin Technology, so it is surprising it does not work as they write. I recommend that you report it to the Support, making them know that the feature does not work as designed.
DETECTING NAPS
For best results, naps should be less than 3 hours long, including awake periods. Sleep sessions longer than 3 hours escape the definition of taking a nap and are simply classified as sleep. Your nap should also be outside your normal sleep window. This means your nap should start more than 1 hour after you wake up and end at least 1 hour before your normal bedtime.
I have a low resting heart rate averages mid to high 40s but I rarely get misreported naps when reading or watching TV. I suspect there’s more than RHR affecting the errors.
I’lll try a full reset to factory but many have reported the same issue. A toggle to turn this off would be great.
if i disable WHR outside activities it seems to not register false naps but then i’m compromising the bodybattery measurements etc. …
or let us just delete a nap?

i can get several a day, often during work hours too when its obviously impossible Im asleep!
There needs to be an option of disabling it and I think we need the opposite of a sleep window, a work window - if you do a 9 to 5 job then you should be able to tell the watch not to detect during working hours.
