I'm on 7.2 and after a period of not moving my wrist, the display turns completely off (this is after the expected dimming) even though I have Always On selected. I hope this is a bug and not one of the ways it gets the 6 days of battery life.

Updated October 18th, 2022:
If your display was turning off despite your settings, the v9.37 software update has fixed the issue.
This picture will help and the Support Center article…
Thanks, Chris. Yes, that does help but given those specifications there isn’t really an option for a display that is always on so “Always on Display” is misleading (and now it makes sense how Epix is able…
I hope the 7 works out better for you. I’ll never be able to go back to that muted screen after having the Epix for a week.
To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never…
I also cannot believe that this 'feature' isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual. You just plainly cannot call this 'always on', unless you give us the option to do so.
Just a general question: what is the problem for some here, if the aod went of in some cases and is easily to turn on again? Is it just a problem, because Garmin is using the term „aod“?
Yes. If you advert something and then don’t deliver that special function, people will complain.
Always means always. If you buy a pocket light wich turns of after you didn’t move it for 60seconds oven if the switch is in a position labeled „permanently on“, would you be happy with it? It would be a light with only momentary on function no matter what the seller told you
So Garmin should name it aaod (almost always on display)…
No, they can leave the name. They just need to change the function to allow you to actually set it to 'always on'
Why? What is it good for and what are you missing with the way it is working now?
If I'm watching TV & glance at my watch it's off. If I take it off briefly & set it by my laptop, its off. That's not always on.
I cannot understand how you can argue the other side here. Turning off after 60s is not 'always on' & it is mentioned nowhere in the Epix manual. I genuinely thought my watch was faulty or I'd missed a setting until finding this discussion.
Can't see the issue with the display turning off if you take the watch off?
Some people put the watch over the bike
It will not turn off doing that
the vibrations of the bike are enough to keep the screen on
Btw. I have an epix and I’m pissed of the turning off „feature „
but bike rides even without starting an activity will definitely be no issue
