I'm on 7.2 and after a period of not moving my wrist, the display turns completely off (this is after the expected dimming) even though I have Always On selected. I hope this is a bug and not one of the ways it gets the 6 days of battery life.

Updated October 18th, 2022:
If your display was turning off despite your settings, the v9.37 software update has fixed the issue.
This picture will help and the Support Center article…
Thanks, Chris. Yes, that does help but given those specifications there isn’t really an option for a display that is always on so “Always on Display” is misleading (and now it makes sense how Epix is able…
I hope the 7 works out better for you. I’ll never be able to go back to that muted screen after having the Epix for a week.
To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never…
UPDATE
I got a call from the official garmin flagship store!
there will be no update to change the display behavior in the future.
the display behavior is intended the way it is with 7.2!
Lucky for me they exchange my epix for a 7x
This isn't correct the display turns off after 60 seconds in always on disabled when in an activity.

To reiterate my experience, AOD on, gestures off, and I literally never see the screen go off while I’m wearing the watch. I guess I never sit still for long!
You really should rinse it off after workouts to clean out the sweat, otherwise when it dries it can leave salt behind the buttons and in the charging port.
I'm glad you got it exchanged.
Did they mention if they're going to stop advertising the Epix as having an AOD? ;)
For what its worth, with this new setting I am seeing an average of .5% drain an hour with "AOD" and touch on during the day, then screen and touch off while I "sleep" for 10 hours a night. That gives 8 and change days of battery life before any GPS activities. I'll take it.
Yeah, 8 days is certainly great. And if I got to choose between 60 seconds, 10 minutes, 60 minutes, and off, I might very well end up using 60 seconds, at least partly. But we still need the option to choose. It'd be perfect if we could set it up with different options for different parts of the day. For example I would be happy to use 60 seconds during working hours as long as I could use 10 minutes or even 60 minutes in the evening and on weekends.
Problem is still the lack of options.
I'm glad to hear that you're content with the 60 seconds, though. After having used it for a while, how often would you say it's going black on you?
Well of course there's no CURRENT plan to change it; the watch came out a week ago, and it's working as the designers intended. That doesn't mean that they won't decide to make a change in the future if people complain about it.
I see nothing wrong with the way Garmin implemented AOD. The dim mode is bright enough for my old eyes, and for me (YMMV) I have to purposely not move my arm to see the screen go totally blank. I've never not seen it in dim or full-on mode when I went to look at the watch.
Not to mention that if they changed the way AOD works, they would probably have to change the battery life specs that they give for the watch.
I think the current functionality is a great compromise.
