17.28 - Slow "Running" Activity Start with longer delay....

Got a new Enduro 2 and wondering about this delay, BEFORE the GPS Screen, so i press Start, Running and then comes the delay....

It takes not so long for other activities....

Tried already the most common things to fix it but its still there...

Thank you..

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. For this, do you have any additional Connect IQ data fields etc. installed that may account for the delay? If so, try uninstalling these to see if this helps.

If this continues, I would try a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

You can also try resetting the activity app. For this, use these steps:

    1. Connect the watch with a computer
    2. Launch Garmin Express
    3. select the device
    4. Click on IQ apps
    5. Locate the Run app
    6. Click on the X to delete this
    7. Disconnect from the computer
    8. Powercycle the watch
    9. Reconnect the watch with Express
    10. Change the IQ app drop down to All
    11. Locate the Run app again
    12. Click on the Cloud icon to download this

Disconnect from the computer, and try testing the app again.

  • im sorry but its still there, nothing helps here, can this be just due to the newest software ?

Every activity, skate, hike, bike works without a delay, only run and trail run need 6-10 seconds to get to the first screen - i give it up soon with this!

And the connection between a mac and Garmin express just connection wise i horrible!

Its not the usb connecter, not the cable and can't be the watch, since a old forerunner did the same - im asking me when you work on all that!? Disappointed

  • no one else ever had this????  I can't fix it, its only running.... others have not a few seconds delay when starting...

  • I could imagine some of the following issues could cause the delay:

    • Waiting for for the GPS lock. Check out the GPS settings of the running activity profile and compare it to the other profiles, where you experience no delay. Connect the watch to Garmin Express before starting the activity. It downloads the CPE file update, and avoids so the delay when acquiring the CPE data OTA through the phone
    • Altimeter calibration - try manually calibrating the altimeter, or disabling the auto-calibration, in order to exclude this possibility.
    • Trying to connect an external sensor, such as a HRM strap, If you use any such sensors, try removing them from Sensors & Accessories and test again to see whether it is the culprit. If it is, try changing the batteries in the sensor.
    • Starting the Live Track - try disabling it to see whether it is the reason of the delay.
    • CIQ apps - if you use any Connect IQ Data Fields or other CIQ apps, try disabling them
    • Bluetooth - try disabling the BT in order to see whether some BT communication is at the root of the delay
    • Too many files (courses, maps, workouts, activities,...) - clear the Activities folder, remove unneeded workouts, courses, and maps) to see whether it makes any difference

Eliminate one possibility at a time, step by step; do not try excluding all in the same time. If nothing of it helps, do the master reset to factory defaults with deleting all data. If it still does not help, I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com, and requesting a replacement device.

  • Trying to connect an external sensor

Having seen all the data the OP provided my first idea was whether he used a sensor dedicated only to running. I mean typically a footpod  like Stryd can be a run-only external sensor.

My second bet would be a CIQ datafield used only for run.

All the other options are related to multiple sports app including bike, hike etc.

But normally a hard reset should have eliminated any eventual adverse effect of all these potential causes. Otherwise everybody else would suffer from it with their factory reset watches, too.

  • And fyki I found a strange bug with another watch, if I remember well, it was a Fenix 6X. If I had just one sports app installed I had the same delay of a couple  seconds. After I added any other sports app the delay has disappeared.

I dont say it is the case with your Enduro 2, since you use multiple sports and your bug is related only to run and trail run, I just mentioned it to show that some strange things may happen even if you are simply unlucky to find a big happening pretty rarely.

Just in case: you use more sports apps as favourites, dont you?  I remember this one only issue occured also when I had more apps installed, but only one as favourite.

  • Thank you for anyone who responded:

For now this is gone, but im not sure what fixed is to be  honest! But:

The strange thing, the Activity "Running" Start seems to be quick, since my strava membership ended, since i saw that the strava segments won't work anymore....

So bad timing or that was the reason..... i was happy that its going quick now how it has to be, but i could not say 100%

But i found a music bug on the enduro, that i can't rewind any track on the watch for long, since it jumps out of the time i rewinded and i have to start new, maybe a garmin guy could take note..
