Turn off voice prompts from phone when navigating

Hi,

For some reason (after update 17.1) my wife’s phone has started to voice audio prompts of POI’s on a course we’re following.

It’s an iPhone and had Garmin Connect closed at the time.
I’ve check a few settings and they’re the same as mine though mine didn’t start talking to me on our run!!

Any idea where this option would be? Thanks.

  • Hello. It appears to be working, but on my EPIX PRO 2, after the update, Livetrack is no longer autostarting, and I have also lost the current, maximum, and minimum temperature in a standard watch face. I have already turned both the watch and the phone on and off, ensured that location services are always enabled, etc. Any suggestions?

  • I have a Forerunner 955 and I don't think I had this problem a month ago. These annoying instructions on my phone during navigation started with firmware 26.08 (unfortunately, firmware 27.05 didn't fix it). I thought this problem was gone?

  • It is still a problem in 27.09 on FR 955. Auto zoom also doesn't work or is useless.

  • 16/03/26 - Issue still present on 27.09 on Forerunner 965.

Insane that this is still a problem lol. The initial firmware that came with the watch didnt have this problem, no idea why this has been done.

Example senario, you plot a course for 20ish miles run/walk.

You want to get prompts for turns in the trail you have chosen a buzz or a beep from your watch.

At the same time as its a long trail you want to listen to music or a podcast via your phone using headphones or out loud.

    That was do-able previously.

Now instead every time there is a turn you hear the prompt via voice through your phone, regardless of settings. WHY??????

Surely any common sense says you dont want to hear voice prompts whilst listening to something else every few minutes?

Please please please resolve this, IT WAS A FEATURE BEFORE!

  • Noticed a similar problem on the slopes end of January this year. Every time I went up a skilift my phone started talking. Which is strange as I have it on silent mode. Today I went on a walk using a route. My mates IPhone went crazy with turn by turn instructions. He has an enduro 2 watch. I was laughing when inchecked the same was also happening with my Fenix 7x pro, only my sound was on low level (still on silent mode). There does not seem to be an option on either Iphone or the watch to regulate this. Only option seems to be to shutdown Bluetooth on IOS while walking.

  • This is insanity. This is a massive bug that makes the watch unusable for many people. I often do long trail group runs, with a course loaded for navigation. My phone just blasts out audio commands constantly. Doesn't matter if it's on silent. I opened a support ticket, they said I'm welcome to submit a feature request, and refused to do anything at all for me. I don't believe this is a feature request, this is a request for my watch to function the way it did when I paid $600 for it, the way it is advertised to function. Garmin is well aware of the issue, as they've implemented a fix on new series.

I asked the chat agent what they are willing to do for me. He said nothing. I told him he's lost a loyal Garmin customer. He said "Thanks for choosing Garmin. Have a great day!" and exited the chat.

This is a crazy hill to die on Garmin. Just straight up giving the middle finger to loyal customers. I'll be sure to spread the word.

  • Welcome to our group new people, make yourself at home, subscribe to this thread and receive some emails every few months when others run into this issue until the end of time.

  • There’s so many unpredictable and wild things going on in the world we live in today… but the one constant thing that I know I can count on is Garmin's incompetence to provide any sort of solution to this issue that’s plagued users for years. So thanks Garmin for at least being consistently terrible.
