Turn off voice prompts from phone when navigating

Hi,

For some reason (after update 17.1) my wife’s phone has started to voice audio prompts of POI’s on a course we’re following.

It’s an iPhone and had Garmin Connect closed at the time.
I’ve check a few settings and they’re the same as mine though mine didn’t start talking to me on our run!!

Any idea where this option would be? Thanks.

  • Hello

You can control Audio prompts through the app or the watch itself.

    In the watch:

    1. Hold the Menu button
    2. Select Audio Prompts
    3. Disable the prompts here as desired.

    In the Connect app:

    1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

    2. Select More (bottom right).

    3. Select Garmin Devices.

    4. Select the device name.

    5. Depending on your model, select one of the options below or skip to step 6.

      • Activity Options

      • Device Settings

      • Phone

    6. Select Audio Prompts.

  • This turns off ALL prompts.

    I have same issue.

Up until now (Enduro 2 and Fenix 6) I have had prompts set so that watch 'chirps' to alert of upcoming navigation prompt which are then visually displayed on watch. Now I get the (really awful) phone voice prompt giving actual directions.

I don't want voice, just the chirp.

    Please help! Many thanks

  • Hi ,

despite having all audio prompts set to off, I still have voice prompts for navigation. We are many to complain about it, may you create a ticket for this ? this is purely annoying, and indeed, it was caused by an update.

What most of us want :

    - the chirp like before

    - no voice prompt

    - likely a setting to control it, which does not exist yet apparently,

  • This has only recently started happening to me and it’s really annoying. I usually lead a group and at first thought it was someone else until I ran on my own and realised it was my phone. Can’t for the life of me work out how to switch it off Rage

  • This isn't fixing my issue either. I do the galloway method while running and cannot have my phone talk every 30 seconds - it takes 10 seconds for the announcement, then I only get a 20 second break before it speaks again. It did not used to do this - please help!

  • Same issue on Epix 2. It's important for me to get turn prompt sounds from the watch without the phone doing any talking. Since I often take multiple turns in a short period of time, it's seriously annoying when the phone won't shut up with the voice directions (which aren't helpful). The only thing I can do is mute the phone, which brings other problems.

  • Update July 22, 2024:

Our engineers are aware of a report of audio prompts for navigation to sound, when audio prompts are disabled. They are researching a solution to this. In the mean time, the work around for this is to disable Turn prompts in the navigation settings. This will disable the navigation prompts on the watch, but will also disable the audio prompts.

Once there is any additional changes, I will post again.

  • Do we have any update? Disabliing everything I can the phone keep tallkinv I was hoping to use pace pro for my 100m this coming weekend.

    any solution in sight?

  • I emailed support and got a reply directing me to disable audio prompts, I don’t recall having audio prompts in my menu before so I wonder if this is an update?

I’ve turned off activity alerts and that’s worked so far. I’ve only tested it with the run/walk alerts, I still need to try navigation alerts.

Walk through the steps below to locate audio prompt settings.

    1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

    2. Select More (bottom right).

    3. Select Garmin Devices.

    4. Select the device name.

    5. Depending on your model, select one of the options below or skip to step 6.

      • Activity Options

      • Device Settings

      • Phone

      • System

    6. Select Audio Prompts.

NOTE: Audio Prompt settings may vary between models.
