Automatic dive mode

It has happened twice to me the lats two days that my Descent watch went into dive mode when I just jumped into the water for a swim. It ended the dive three minutes later registering a dive with a max depth of 0.6 meter, average depth 0.1 m and 3 minutes long...
This would not be such a probblem if it was possioble to delete this “false” dive, but it is not...!?
Also, I understood that the automaic dive mode should start first at 1.5 meters...?
Something to fix by Garmin forvthe next update?
  • As a diver, when we do an entry into the water, the entry can (depending on distance between the entry point and water) can cause the water to go into dive mode because you may go deeper than 3-4’. Your watch may have done this and then your EOD delay may be set at roughly 3 minutes.

I’ve been an advocate of being able to turn of the Auto Dive mode for a certain time because as an Instructor my watch is always going into dive mode when I’m just a few feet underwater in the pool.
  • Yes, I know. I am adiver and use my Descent for diving. That is why it is so annoying when the watch goes into dive mode even if I just go for a swim and my arm is not deeper than one meter... And then I can’t remove that false “dive” record in the watch... There should be a delay on like 10 seconds below 1,5 meter before it goes into dive mode?
  • There should be a delay on like 10 seconds below 1,5 meter before it goes into dive mode?

So all actual dives are 10 seconds shorter than they should be? Also, it won't start recording until you are 5 metres (based on the depth 10 seconds into my last dive).
  • Yeah, perhaps that’s not so good solution...
But I am sure Garmin could figure out a way to avoid these “false” dives that are stored in the log in the watch...?
At least to be able to delete them?
  • So, I found out that the only way to delet obsolete faulty dives from the dive log on the watch, is to delete the files associated with these records on the watch by conneting it to a PC. And it seems to work. The only thing then that is strange is that the latest dive in the widget dissaperas or show incomplete data until the next dive. But then it seems ok.
Anyone see any problems with this method?
  • I wish there was a way to turn this feature off. Has anyone been able to find a solution? I keep on playing around with the setting but I have had no luck.
  • Well, I use to start an activity before swimming. Then the watch does not go into dive mor automatically.
I have an temperature app, that is perfect to use for that...
  • I personally like the autostart feature for diving. However, it is too sensitive, I just played in the pool with the kids doing some diving at 1m for a 15 seconds or so and it did start a dive. I guess everything less than 3m depth and shorter than 1 minute should not trigger a dive.
  • Yes, it is really annoying that the dive mode starts when playing in the pool. And the false dives are not possible to remove from the dive log either. There should be a solution for that. I am sure tha Garmin with it’s diving specialists could come up with a solution...?
  • While the dive is still visible on the watch, I did not have a problem to remove the false dive from Garmin connect (via the phone app). I trust removing a dive from the watch could be problematic due to safety reasons. Key for me is to adjust the logic how the watch detects a dive.
