Since the next update is 15.08, I wonder if APAC users will ever get 16.10 at this rate? Unless Garmin is planning to end support for the G1; sadly, I just got my G1 Solar last month. This experience is truly disappointing, I had gotten the G1 expecting to access the latest software. This may be my last Garmin.

Otherwise, it can be recognized by the installed languages. Garmln support can also tell you which version it is from the serial number.
It does not really natter what the official statement is, but the fact is that Garmin sells three categories of models - and to distinguish between APAC + non-APAC ("RoW"), and the true Worldwide (APAC+RoW in one), using the term RoW is more appropriate than WW, since the "RoW" models are in no way "worldwide" usable devices. For example Instinct 2X is a true WW model, Instinct 2 is not. You can't use it with all languages. The term RoW is perfectly correct in this case, regardless what Garmin claims.
BTW, the term RoW (Rest of World) is used by Garmin too, although it is true that the traces slowly vanish, so it becomes more difficult to find it, and in this specific case it excludes different part of the World (the USA):
